I felt like practicing some rendering the other day, so I used that one panel sketch as a base and painted this over it.
I could probably do more with this, but for something I mostly just messed around on I actually really like how it turned out, so I don't mind leaving it here for now.
The background isn't anywhere specific, I just needed something that looked like a REALLY dark room that was out of focus. It's wherever you want it to be.
Since I was practicing rendering and not sketching, I wasn't exactly worried about cleaning up the sketch itself -- I erased some lines so that I could do that blended 'seam' between the dark and light fur, but that's about it.
I wanted to see how well I could pull off multiple textures in general, but especially fur -- DD!Werehog Sonic has a handful of different fur textures, ranging from short 'suede' fur on his face and hands to long coarse fur on his back and arms.
(...I feel like I should mention that I have hyperphantasia, so whenever I visualize things I 'see' them in full detail, including this design itself -- I can literally see it at the same level of detail as a CGI model. That's why I think about "high definition" details like fur texture.)
I should make a proper reference sheet for this design at some point. Maybe I'll do an in-depth breakdown of it whenever I get around to that.
