𝐡𝐢𝐬  𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬  𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐝  at  the  rack  of  what  he  imagined  were  handpicked  shorts  and  shirts  or  various  colours  and  fits,  accepting  the  first  hanger  with  an  expression  like  gonzo  was  preparing  for  the  shirt  to  spontaneously  combust  in  his  hands.

❝  do  i  have  to  try  them  all  on?  can't  i  just  pick  one  and  that's  it?  ❞

        He made it look easy. One moment stretched and sprawled without a care upon the sand, the next on his feet! Chasing after the group of fly-by water bombers armed with water guns and water balloons and the speed of mischief. Henry, conversely, was armed with naught but long legs and a mission of vengeance. 

        The chase was long, the path wild and blind, but, eventually, he caught a sleeve. Gonzo’s sleeve, to be specific. And Henry gave a triumphant laugh (HA!) when the momentum wasn’t enough to pull it back out of his grasp. Henry pulled. Wound his hand into the fabric and, in general, reeled his captive in. His laughing carried up from the soles of his feet and the foot of his soul as tried to wrestle the water gun away from Gonzo.

        “You’re a menace,” he accused, “and you’re caught – give it up!”

the  princess  didn’t  know  how  she  got  in  this  . . .  situation.  she  knew  who  he  was.  harry,  son  of  captain  hook.  he  was  part  of  uma’s  crew,  which  meant  he  wasn’t  friends  with  mal.  he  was  friends  with  ben  though  . . .  wasn’t  he?  relations  between  auradon  and  the  isle  were  still  questionable  at  best.  she  knew  she  shouldn’t  trust  him,  or  anyone  she  didn’t  know.  but  he  made  her  feel  . . .  well,  she  didn’t  know  what  she  felt,  but  she  felt  it  from  her  head  all  the  way  down  to  her  toes.

he  had  bad  idea  written  all  over  him  but  instead  of  taking  the  opportunity  to  duck  under  his  arm  and  head  back  toward  the  beach  party,  she  pushed  off  the  tree  so  she  was  standing  flush  against  the  pirate,  so  close  she  had  to  tilt  her  head  to  look  up  at  him.  she  almost  giggled,  but  she  swallowed  it  down  so  the  only  thing  that  escaped  was  one  little  squeak.  “won’t  somebody  notice  we’re  missing?”

AH,  THERE  HE  IS.  THAT  MOTHERFUCKER.  of  course  dylan  remembered  the  person  that  tackled  him  over  an  edge  into  the  ocean  below.  he  ruined  what  could  have  been  a  perfectly  good  meal  for  the  mermaid,  but  kept  him  entertained  that  night  and  had  occupied  his  thoughts  ever  since.  not  many  would  attempt  to  take  on  a  mermaid,  especially  in  the  water.  it  was  kind  of  impressive.  and  kind  of  hot.  and  naturally,  dylan  wasn’t  going  to  limit  that  entertainment  to  a  one  night  engagement.

no,  when  he  saw  gonzo  at  the  beach  party  he  also  saw  an  opportunity.  he  waited  for  the  perfect  moment,  and  when  it  finally  came,  it  was  his  turn  to  tackle  the  other  into  the  ocean,  laughing  even  as  they  both  went  under  water.

        Long hours of the day becoming drowsy, the sun was beginning to shuffle off to bed, leaving dusk in its wake. The warmth was following, quickly, after it, pursued by a hefty wind blowing in off the sea. Henry, with no announcement, arrived to deposit a dense, fluffy towel over Corinne’s head in the fashion of a bedsheet-ghost. His own was draped, loosely, draped his shoulders.

        “You looked cold,” the casual explanation provided as he invited himself to a seat in the sand nearby. “I think they’re lighting a fire or two soon, but in the meantime,” he gestured, broadly, at the towel. “There’s another one... somewhere ‘round here. Bels might have taken it when she made off with my shirt, though.”

        “It doesn’t bite.” Out of the clear blue sky and barely ankle deep wave curling around him as it pulled back out. He was teasing her, gently, for the way she had danced out of the water’s reach. It wasn’t wrong to be afraid, and he didn’t aim to mock her. He’d seen the vastness of the open ocean, knew people who had lost everything to it. The ocean -the water- was often a fearsome thing. 

But it was a tender thing, too. 

        “You know... a lot of people think it’s about fighting the water, or resisting it. Finding ways to make it bend to you. The real trick is to work with it. You can’t fight a wave, not really, but it’ll carry you if you let it.”

        Henry wore a day at the beach exactly as one would expect: held tall by comfort and so well loved by the sun and the wind one would not be remiss for neglecting to notice the array of scars in plain view. He was nothing but light as he jogged to catch up with Jane. He easily took pace alongside her, his first offering a greeting smile. The second— 

        “Collecting?” he asked, and opened his hand to show Jane a practically perfect drill shell perched in the middle of his palm. It was striped in shades of maroon, pale orange, and cream, and chipped only slightly on the very end. (He’d stepped on it.) “Or just walking?”
