Pure Persia by MarselvanOosten // This image is was shot in the Lut desert in Iran. I love deserts, and the Lut desert is one of the most stunning ones. You can find deserts with massive sand dunes all over the planet, but there are very few that have towering rock structures throughout them. Algeria and Libya are great examples, but Iran has the tallest I have seen so far. One of the things I like about deserts, is the graphic shapes and lines, devoid of visual clutter. The other thing is that most deserts are dynamic landscapes - the wind shapes the dunes and creates patterns, and every visit it looks different. What’s also great, is that deserts are quiet. Tour buses and cars can’t drive into them, so no mass tourism (yet). As the Lut desert is located in Iran, and most people have an irrational fear of the country, its even more quiet. That means that the landscapes have not been photographed to death and that there is still a lot to discover. Locations like this can be found all over the Lut desert, and this is one we had scouted the day before to shoot in the morning. Daniella was shooting a promotional video for our Pure Persia photo tour, and I decided to include her in the shot for scale. Iran is a truly wonderful country with stunning landscapes and the most welcoming and friendly people. Can’t wait to go back there later this year.
