Desert Scenes - May 2025 Kathy took these images of desert scenes on US Highway 160 between Holbrook and Cortez, Arizona. It is amazing to see how the desert transitions to the mountains. MWM
Desert Scenes
Desolation - surrounded by hopelessness and scorching fear.
360 degrees of pale yellow grass diverging from the black volcanic blemishes, rising gnarly and defiantly. Then silver-green and rust. Then, blue, white, and gold.
Gradual ascent.
So subtle you keep looking up, towards the earthly concepts of heaven, waiting for the proof of your space, and the monolith of your time.
Realization that the apex has been met is the joy and curse of knowing that the world is falling beneath you;
violent, unforgiving and mineral - millennia of unforced decisions and the ethereal beauty that can only be attributed to chaos.
The otherworldly energy is so strong; the accepting enigma of place that feels so much like home, and so hopelessly lonely.
Desolation - surrounded by faith; truth in love and love in truth. You are where you should be, will always be, and have always been.

This is where Ghost Ranch (where Georgia O’Keeffe called home) is located. The landscape is stunning and photos don’t really do it justice.
Carson Nation amphitheater is also in here (photo 2).
