Screw this bullshit, everything should be ADA compliant
I “just” have obsessive-compulsive disorder but the amount of stress that is relieved by ADA-compliant spaces is INDESCRIBABLE.
I can tap a button with my jacket’s elbow instead of having to wrap my fingers around a disgusting door handle and have to scrub my hands (twice)(or more if I turn off the sink incorrectly) later!!
I’m way less likely to bump something by accident (and have to scrub my skin or rub hand sanitizer into my clothes or hair) in an aisle wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs!
Don’t get me started on tiny bathroom stalls. I can’t even use them anymore, so I have to rush and pray nobody else needs the large stall. Because when is there ever more than one that’s big enough I won’t bump a wall and have to go home to scrub and change? Nothing else makes “touched something incorrectly in a public bathroom” panic go away!
Compliant spaces are so much better. The ADA wasn’t written with my circumstance in mind but I still rely on it on a daily basis and I can’t even imagine how frustrating it is to have to rely on it as the only option
I’m sorry if this isn’t my rant to give, I’m just so effing frustrated with my apartment building. Why did it take until 1990 to get this shit passed???
