DELVE: Demonstrate, Explore, Link, Vision, Evidence. DELVE is a unique suite of bespoke workshops that brought traditional crafters, artists and designers together to share skills and collaborate. The creatives offered workshops in their respective disciplines and in turn, explored potential new directions and working relationships between designers and traditional crafters/artists.

This is a #designatmagee project in collaboration with Local Hands & Friends. The 2 day event was funded by The Garfield Weston Trust & The Allingham Project. The students that attended were from #designatmagee and LYIT (Erasmus Germany). The students won their places at DELVE as a result of their entries in Poetry In Motion at #allingham 2014.

Unbelievably #designatmagee has not been cut by Ulster University A serious blow to the creative economy in the northwest. DELVE is just a very small example of a much bigger contribution.

#delve2015 is gonna be hard to sum up. It went way beyond expectations and fuel has been poured on embers that are gonna set the craft/design world alight. Some very interesting collaborations coming out of this. A short vid is being cut at the mo. Something tells me we’ve created a baby monster!

Hi All DELVE participants,

Please find attached the programme for DELVE2015.

DELVE takes place at The Mill Wheel, Abbey, Ballyshannon this Friday 26th & Saturday 27th June. DELVE is designed to bring together traditional crafters, artists and designers with a view to sharing skills and explore potential collaborations in a relaxed creative environment, eliminating the pressure of client delivery.  As participants, you will demonstrate your individual skill sets, explore possibilities across disciplines, forge links with potential creative partners and perhaps even visualise new projects?

You'll see on the programme that two tracks will run concurrently over the 2 days.

Track 1: For Crafters Track 2: For Designers

The crafters will experience design thinking/demonstrations and in turn, the designers will have an opportunity to get 'hands on' with traditional craft demos/workshops. Ideally, it would be fantastic if both groups could attend each full track. The tracks join together at key stages through the programme. There will also be 'Creative Interludes', where you can escape to the 'Scriptorium', experiment with stop animation and even doodle in mid air? (if the postman makes it on time). The workshops are not open to the general public, but there has been interest online, so we may have some 'passers by' looking over our shoulders on occasion. We are planning to film short sections from the workshops with a view to compiling a short 3 minute film to be shown at 'The Allingham Festival' in November 2015. If, for some reason you do not wish to be filmed, please let me know in advance, no offence will be taken.

Hot lunches will be served on both the Friday and Saturday and tea/coffee will also be available. If you have any dietary requirements please email [email protected]. All participants & attendees are invited to a meal at Nirvana restaurant (our treat) at 6.45pm on Friday eve followed by a student design showcase in the Thatch at 8.15pm.

Thank you for giving up your time to take part in DELVE. Without your support, this would not have come together. Hopefully you find value in the respective demos/workshops, meet some interesting creative folk, and enjoy some creative freedom for a change!

Padraic has been utilising social media as a teaching tool since 2007. One recent successful working model is the DAM Alumni ‘closed’ group on facebook. Multiple design jobs have been secured through the group. 

In 2014, he led a social media and website restructuring project for the Allingham Festival which resulted in a reach of 50,000+ views. This workshop aims to demystify social media structuring and furnish you with tips to improve your reach and manage your content.

ArtyBird Felt Making

Donna Lynch is ‘artybird’. She creates mixed media and textile artwork for exhibition and online sales and runs workshops and creative parties for all age groups. Working with designers?, now that should be fun!

Expect to explore the ancient art of wet felt making using needle punching merino wools. A simple process using fibres to create a unique fabric or 3D outcome. It will be interesting to see what a group of multidisciplinary designers will create. Donna is a lecturer in Art & Design and has a Masters in Applied Arts. Her diverse career has seen her turn her hand to graphic and interior design, but her passion lies within the area of textile art. Donna is a former national winner of the EBS Ireland Craft Competition - Textile Art Category (RDS Dublin).
