Sometimes I’ll post a song on my page just because it’s an outlier and it’s from band that most people have never heard of. People on Tumblr seem to genuinely be looking for something different as far as music and content goes. So, here’s Woven, a band that ostensibly blinked out of existence before 2010. Their music made it no further than college and LA radio, a single tour and getting a few songs on a forensic crime show. That’s about it, and that’s a shame, because I feel like they could have kept on getting more mature over the last decade or so with compositions and production. Trippy, moody and mixing several styles of music (trance, rock, drum and bass, etc.) but lacking a certain discipline, Woven is the type of band that if given just a few more years of focus could have generated some very big hits. In a world chockfull of art-rock poseurs it sure is refreshing to hear a song like Cosmonaut from 2008’s Designer Codes and think to yourself, “Wow, not all indie music actually completely sucks! It’s just shitty bands that make it suck!” This is experimental music and somewhat indefinable but has a perfectly psychedelic sound complimented by sudden Deftones-like peaks of power guitar riffs. I gotta tell ya, some of the best bands out there really do disappear well before their creativity is fully realized. Finding music like this really is like finding a hidden gem on the internet, so smash play and enjoy a track you’ll probably rarely, if ever, hear outside my page and a few dark corners on the internet.
