Featuring character designs by Yoshitoshi ABe from the creators of Serial Experiments Lain. Writer of the Light-novel Chiaki J. Konaka confirmed that the anime production is starting THIS YEAR and is expected to conclude in 2027!

From the Despera (Animage Scans) of the anime that was never made; Illustrations by Yoshitoshi Abe but also participating in the project Chiaki J. Konaka and, before his death, Ryutaro Nakamura.
"Serial Experiments Lain" writer Chiaki J. Konaka clarified that "Despera" is NOT a Sequel to Lain.

despite everything i'm pretty excited that despera, the spiritual successor to lain from konaka and abe, might be leaving its decade long production hell this year. i read a crappy fantranslation of the book and yeah there's a lot of lain in there, it's almost a prequel
