So I’m the comment section of one of my posts, @necros_art asked me whether my work was digital or traditional… And here’s my very lengthy reply: I work mostly traditional with some digital :) I do my initial thumbnail sketch in pencil on 8.5 x 11 printer paper. I’ll scan that in and make some adjustments to the composition in Photoshop. I’ll then level it dark and print that out on 11 x 17 printer paper. I then in pencil lightbox my adjusted 11x17 thumbnail sketch onto 11x17 2 ply bristol and tighten the figures and make sure the proportions are correct. At this point I’m not putting in any costume details… these are mannequin type figures. At this point I’m just trying to get the gesture and the proportions correct. I call this my rough pencils. I’ll scan in my rough pencils and make further adjustments to proportion and composition in Photoshop and print that out large—on 18 x 24 paper. (Before I print it I’ll level the rough so it’s a very light gray… This I will clean up and level out once the drawing is inked.) Next, over the print of my rough pencils I tighten up the drawing, add costume details etc, add blacks, add the rendering, and then ink it. I’ve just started using permanent markers to ink with and I really like them. I use mostly Japanese brush markers (thanks @jimmypalmiotti !) so I can get a variation in my line. For me, using markers go a lot quicker and they’re more convenient to use. That allows me to concentrate more on my drawing and less on the “inking”. So this is how I work now… I’ve just started playing with my iPad so I may use that a little bit more at some point… I usually switch up how I work every year or two (not intentionally… Usually out of need). But I find that every time I switch my process up it gives me a fresh start on my work. It’s kind of scary and exciting at the same time. . . #Ink #ComicArt #MarvelArt #Coverart #DrawingOfTheDay #DrawingArt #DrawingDaily #DrawingDay #Dessin #DessinDuJour #Dessinhos #InkDrawing #drawingInProgress #Croquis #MarvelComics #WIP #WorkInProgress #Wolverine!!! #CoverArt #TraditionalInks #TraditionalIllustration #ComicBookArt #Comic bookCover https://www.instagram.com/p/CYw01qXpUNv/?utm_medium=tumblr
