Some days start out amazing .. incredible temps for middle of November. I had a tailwind all the way up to the top of the Ridge .. through Bethany to the Wutai Shan Buddhist Garden for a quick stop .. then on to Omemee. The first 70km was stunning, even with a pile of climbing. Then I turned West at Omemee and it went to hell in a handcart 😈😈 Actually, handcarts might move faster. I now had 20-30kph headwinds plus some monster hills to climb. It was so bad I had to pedal downhill just to keep moving. 🥴😵😵‍💫🤪🤬 @coachsandybatten joked before I left that I wouldn't be home until sunset (late start) ... she was wrong! 🙃🙃🙃 I was home an hour AFTER sunset 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Riding 70km into headwinds all the way sapped the strength from my legs .. I was toast when I got home. This 140km adventure felt like a 200+km ride. That felt like autumn .. cool and windy with a risk of showers. I started with some glorious sunshine 🌞 but it grew overcast quick. Roads were still damp from last night's rain. I noodled my way from Whitby to Uxbridge where I stopped at me favourite mural at @ashs_lashes ... before finding more hills on my way to Port Perry. Kohana has power meters installed on both crank arms ... they measure how much power my legs put into each stroke. This is the first ride where I averaged a perfect 50/50 power distribution... each leg worked equally hard. Not bad over 84km. Added bonus ... I can't believe this is November! Stunning autumn day ... perfect for a long ride up to Millbrook on Kohana. Roads were pretty quiet and the views were gorgeous 😍 I stopped at the Pontypool Grain Elevator on the way. Check my stories for more fun on the ride! On the way back, I passed a marshmallow farm 🚜 🤔😂🤪 122km and 1,500m elevation today .. my legs are a little tired. Another stunning day to be out on the roads... I rode up to Port for the day. It was quite brisk at 9:00am when I went up with the sun rising to my right. Long shadows and a warm back lol On the return home at 4:00pm, the sun was again on my right 😂😂 This time, I spotted a flock of Sandhill Cranes in a farmer's field. After my first photo, they flew over the road to another field. "Kohana" was an Orca raised in captivity at SeaWorld and then "sold" to Loro Parque in Spain to perform for humans. Orca aren't meant to be kept in concrete cages, or concrete jungles - they're meant to be free out in the open. Kohana died Sept 14, 22. I thought it fitting to name my Spanish @orbea Orca M20iLTDin her memory. The sticker on the top tube is actually Kohana - she was known for playing games with her trainers with leaves. I guess when you're trapped, anything can be a toy. Like an Orca, this bike is an absolute weapon! Crazy fast yet still compliant. Kohana cuts through the air and flies up hills unlike any other bike. Full carbon frame and fork, seatpost and handlebars with @vision_tech_usa SC 40 carbon wheels and @vittoriatires Corsa Control Competition G2.0 TLR 700x30c tires deliver an unparalleled ride - smooth AND efficient. Internal hose routing and aero shapes cheat the wind. @shimanoroad Ultegra Di2 2x12-speed electronic shifting is fast and precise. I've set custom shift patterns for automatic shifting of the front derailleur, with it's 52-36 chainrings. Ultegra hydraulic disk brakes stop Kohana in a heart beat. @4iiiicom Precision Pro dual-sided power meters to make the most of my training. I'll share the custom screen on my @garmincycling Edge 520 Plus bike computer later. @selle_italia SLR Boost SuperFlow L Carbon Keramic Rail with an @axiomgear Seymour Oceanweave Wedge 1.3 seatbag and @lizardskinscycling DSP bar tape finish the cockpit. Took @clutt_225 for his first real road ride today. He thought his pretty Candy Red @cannondaleroad CAAD Optimo 1 was going to sit on the trainer! Silly Jeremy... bikes are for riding! And today's weather was ideal for a long outdoor ride! A little windy going East but still perfect. I rode out to Bowmanville and then we followed the WTF out to Port Hope. After a quick protein stop at Olympus Burger, we tackled the big hill on Dorset Street and came home. Along the way, we found the BEST election signs ever! Jeremy managed almost 90km! Pretty awesome considering his first road ride was 5km.
