What about the fact that an actual summer job for a lot of teens here is detasseling, like actually wandering through cornfields during the middle of the summer just pulling tassels off of corn. That's crazy and I think about it all the time

i never did it but i know one of the teachers at my high school had a bunch of kids do that every summer

Detasseling is the process of removing the flowers, or tassel, from the tops of corn, which is often done to cross-breed two varieties of corn. Even if machines are used, people are always employed to detassel any of the plants that are missed. For many teenagers in rural Illinois, detasseling is one of the most common summer occupations, with the season usually starting in July and lasting 3-4 weeks. (More about this collection.)

Me, stumbling through a cornfield and ripping tassels off, feeling like my skin is melting off in 90 degree heat with high humidity and no breeze

We finally started the TAC (Tall Ass Corn) today during work, and I hated it all. The leaves kept stabbing at my nose here and there, which started running like crazy, accompanied by sneezing. Every time the wind blew, my sense of balance was thrown off because the corn kept swaying, and I guess I tend to sway with it (probably an unconscious attempt to dodge the plants.

It appears as though I’ve formed a corn pollen allergy, and working in corn fields does not help.

Hey-o everybody!

So I know I haven’t been incredibly active as of late. I’ve been kind of busy. But Camp NaNoWriMo starts on Friday, so I may not even check my messages very often during that time. And I especially won’t be online much after the 12th, because I’m doing detasseling this summer. 

Or, maybe, if I somehow manage to organize my time properly, I might be online. I might even post things about it. Who knows? I sure don’t. I guess we’ll see what happens.

I really have no idea. My schedule is going to be so whacked up. I’ll have to wake up at four every morning for detasseling, so that’ll be gross. I may or may not have the will to do anything after work, and if I do, writing has to come first, so...

Slightly sleep deprived

My sister Rosie and I were watching Friends. I had been detasseling all day (it's a Midwestern thing google it) and I had had to wake up at four twenty that morning. So, while we were watching Friends we had this convo: Rosie: (playing some kind of word game on her nook) What kind of bus has crossed the ocean? Me: (being a smart bass) an Airbus haha (I then laughed hysterically at my own joke Rosie: haha no really what is it? Me: umm idk what letters are there? Rosie: *hands me the nook* Me: *looks at the letters* I then proceeded to understand what the answer was and laughed/cackled hysterically as I typed in the answer Me:laughing so hard that I'm sobbing Rosie: Whats the answer? What kind of bus has crossed the ocean? .....Columbus Hahahahahahaha:)
