Everything about this girl said ‘life’. Her grin blended so well against her catlike, amber eyes; warm, brown skin; and, in particular, her plush, hickory hair that rolled down her back in a long, fishtail braid.
For the most part, what she wore was a practical, sturdy ensemble consisting of a black tank and knee high sneakers, finished off with khaki shorts and gloves that told the world she was a girl with places to go and adventures to undertake.
At least, until I saw that cerulean bandanna wrapped around her head, swaying behind her as she walked past me. The contrast to the rest of her natural palette was so intense that I had to double-take and wonder what sort of history was tied to it.
