As a child, Ai’s mother would claim a red sun rising was an early warning of something to come. Nowadays, of course, it is known that a red sun is nothing but the result of certain particles in the air. A trick of the light. A lie.
It doesn’t stop her from pausing. From turning her head, searching for any signs of...different.
So familiar, yet foreign...A pinprick on the back of her neck, a ringing in her ear, a change in wind...Danger? No, nothing can harm her, surely. That is her one guarantee in this afterlife: dead is dead. So then, what is this absurd feeling? The spike in power? Is it just paranoia? Has she finally gone senile in her old age?
And then her eyes land on a lone figure: a girl? And a part of her understands.
A polite nod--a bow, really--and a greeting,
“Good day.”
