“Cadillac Station” I used to ride past where the “Z” Parking Lot now stands every day on my way home from work (via the Detroit People Mover). In those days I was usually the only one riding. On the first day I saw the construction start, I was stricken with panic that the two buildings (that now make up The Belt) would be torn down. They weren’t anything majestic, but they had some beautiful architectural details. Although a long-time fan of Dan Gilbert’s, I had underestimated him and his plans for this largely over-looked block. He took this space and not only built on it, he made it one of Detroit’s most iconic and photographed FROM spaces. The rooftop is a prime spot to get some great city views, but the changing murals in The Belt make for a wonderful photo session themselves.
