Deutschstunde (German lesson), movie, 2019 - Part 2

The Jepsen family home has been thoroughly searched for Klaas. Siggi returns home for breakfast. He sneaks in and his mother, Gudrun, knows something is up. She secretly hands Siggi bread and he hides it under his jumper. His father, Jens, joins them at the table and tells them what happened: Klaas shot himself in the arm. 😟 Jens says he could have gotten off with prison but he ran away. He calls his son a coward. 😡 Then he asks Siggi, if he has seen Klaas, who denies it. He tells him that he has to inform him , if he does.

Siggi slips out and returns to Klaas, who seems to have wrecked the place. Siggi tries to feed him bread but he won't eat. He tells Siggi that he will die if he stays in this place. Me too, btw. 😬

Siggi helps him up and they make their way to a neighboring couple, Max Ludwig and Ditte Nansen.

Here is a little backstory. Max is an artist. Siggi's father has the order to confiscate bis paintings as they are catagorized as "entartete Kunst". Max and Jens were friends and rivals all their lives. Jens instrumentalizes to spy on Max. But Max tought Siggi to paint pictures himself, which he of course has to hide from his father. So Siggi is not spying on the Nansens and sees them as chance for Klaas to hide.

So both of them end up on the Nansens' doorstep. Siggi knocks and explains what happened. Max is not amused they came to him as he is already under suspicion. Ditte kneels down and checks Klaas over noticing that he is feverish. Klaas breaking down crying and the Nansens take him in sending Siggi to return home and keeping it all a secret.

Deutschstunde (German lesson), movie, 2019 - Part 4

This is the last part. This scene is very long and almost entirely plays in one room.

Klaas is hurt badly and the question is if they get help or try to nurse him back to health. At first Gudrun, Klaas and Siggi's mother, and their father, Jens are sitting by the older brother's side at their home. Max arrives and kneels down next to Klaas to reassure him that things will be alright.

Then he asks Jens if they are already on their way, meaning the authorities. Jens tells him that noone is coming, yet.

Max tells him that it is now his decision. Jens confirms. Max offers him his help but Jens refuses. Max tells him that Klaas is like a son to him and Jens snaps back that he knows.

Max suddenly jumps up and takes a seat at the table to confront the couple telling them that they will kill him. And that this should be clear to them. Jens tells him to leave. Max returns to Klaas' side addressing the couple again telling them again that it is their decision. Then he storms off.

Gudrun is still not saying anything. 😠 Jens says that now they have a witness and that they owe something. Siggi asks what he means. Jens doesn't explain but asks Siggi to follow him. They leave the room and head to the phone in the next room. We see Klaas looking after them. I wonder how much he really registers from what is going on around him.

Jens calls the authorities! 😱😭😭😭 Gudrun buries her face and cries.

The last scene shows Klaas being transported off. Siggi and his mother are in shock. 😭😭😭

Siggi runs to the Nansens and tells them what happened.

In the pub, Jens is asked, how his oldest son is. He says that he's in the military hospital.

Years later after the war Jens tells his family to forget Klaas and wipe him from their memory. Then he rips up his photo and burns it. 🤬🤬🤬
