The Mother (Kid x Mom!Reader, drabble)

He came into your life not with commotion - but rather a whisper, blowing into your remote corner of the woods, as if carried by a breeze. In the past six months, he’d slowly managed to worm his way into your heart, despite any practical objections you, as a mother, were supposed to have. 

What were they again? 

Laying next to him, you can hardly think of anything.  

There were times where you could tell he was far away, but you never pushed. You never really felt the need to ask, as he came right back, and he gave you the same courtesy. 

You hold your breath while watching him sleep, he moves and sighs, safe here, with the two of you. 

Your son sleeps comfortably on his chest, adjusting slightly in his sleep. At age three, Sheru was a beautiful little boy, and took to him before you did. 

He's made it clear that he’s staying here, in your cottage. It’s close enough to the river so you can fetch water, but not close enough that the air in your home would be cold. He likes it here. 

The first rays of morning light creep into your room, and His eyelashes move, batting lightly. He moves his neck stiffly to look at you, like he knows what you're thinking. 

Then Sheru adjusts too, tightening his toddler grip on who he’d know to be his father. You take a breath, and close your eyes.
