It's ready! My Anki deck for Devanagari Alphabet for Marathi! You can use this to learn the Devanagari alphabet as it is used in Marathi.

It has a whopping 500 cards, which include all the vowels including अ‍ॅ and ऑ, and goes through all the consonant combinations for the vowels, except ञ and ङ (which are included without their consonant combinations).

I trawled through dictionaries to find example words for as many letters as possible. I found decent ones for most of them, I think, and I omitted any that I thought were too rare to bother learning.

Additionally, the deck is fully voiced for both letters and words. Some of these pronunciations were really tricky but I think I nailed 'em. My recording equipment isn't the greatest, but hopefully it should be fine for this.

My next project is to voice the vocabulary deck for मध्यरात्रीचे पडघम [madhyarātrīče paḍgham]. Then, I'm considering creating a deck for Marathi numbers from 1-100. Look forward to them!

I still continue my Sanskrit journey, but I haven't delved deeply into it. I really need to actually study the Devanagari alphabet - but I've been focused on Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada! And those use different alphabets!

the Aurebesh isn't very great from a conscripting perspective. not only because it's a fucking cipher (a mere font to write in English, with English nonsensical spelling rules) but also because all letters are blocky squares.

Which us fine because this isn't the focus of Star Wars, it's purpose isn't to work well linguistically or practically, it is to set an atmosphere and pretend it's not English

Chinese, Japanese and other syllabic scripts work that way because each symbol stands for a while syllable, not an individual sound. and English has syllables with massive consonant clusters like scratch

an alphabet needs many tall, thin letters like l i r q r t p d f h j k l b

if all letters are fat and wide like ლ then any text occupies far too much space and is overly long. and larger chunks of text consume exponentially more space, paper, ink, digital pages, stablishment titles, etc, not to mention being annoying to read

the simplest solution is to create thinner versions of each letter, making them thinner and thinner until it's a totally different alphabet

a different solution that preserves the blocky feel is to combine letters together into ligatures, like in Hindi, specially for common words and consonant combinations, so, fusing E and R into a single ER letter, for example.

to illustrate, this is "Republic" in canon Aurebesh:

we could go more aggressive and combine more than two letters, but speakers would have to know all ligatures, but that's fine, Hindi speakers learn hundreds or millions of letter combinations and they're not random, they are intuitive

of course, i'd still prefer to make an alphabet which actually makes sense

if we wrote English with the Hangul, Republic would be 러풉맄

   My recent journals!

           Hi friend! I hope you're doing alright! ʕ•́ᴥ•̀ʔっ

            I recently made a post about my first journals, so I was wondering...why don't I make a post showing how they have changed over the years? And here we are, I'm gonna share how they look like!

            Well, after some time using the Cyrillic, Greek and Hiragana writing systems, I tried to study new ones. I was very interested in the Hangul system (since I was studying it a couple years ago), as well as the Arabic, Devanagari, Hebrew and Thai.

            And these are the writing systems I used the most. I still have the journals from 2022 to 2023, when I was 16-17 years old. This time the pages became a bit more interesting. I would choose one predominant color palette, and I started using washi tapes and stickers! 

            I am going to show some of my favorite pages. There are way more, but I don't want to fill my blog with pictures. You can try to use Google Lens to translate, but since they are actually transcriptions with different grammar, it's gonna be just nonsense <(￣︶￣)>

I started writing in the Arabic Abjad. Of course, it isn't actual Arabic, because first: I don't speak it, and second: If it was just Arabic, people could simply take pictures and translate it ;)

Jesus Christ, apparently I didn't know how to draw people..?

I loved to write manuscripts of sheet music and do collages. I think it's so pretty!

I tried to do a watercolor drawing there, but I was actually  interested in oil painting. I used watercolor because I was broke, basically. Surprise, I still am T_T

This one was a little different, did you notice it? I tried to write using the Thai writing system. But the thing is: there are SO MANY rules for writing vowels...And all the letters demand a lot of strokes and attention. Since I was lazy, I didn't use it anymore.

This time I used the Devanagari system, used a lot in India and  neighbor countries! I watched the Steven Universe movie that day.

Now there are two systems: In the left page, it is the Korean Alphabet. In the right, it is a system I was inventing: A fake Chinese, mixed with a modified Hiragana. If you want I can make another post abt it!

Here I used a lot of the fake Chinese system I created. And you can maybe tell I was in love with Senshi and Yao... Poor me

2025: Back to journaling!!

            Well, and now I am a college student who lives far away from my parents. So technically I could just write in my native language, Portuguese, or maybe in English or other languages I know; I don't have to hide the fact that I'm LGBT, my opinions and all, since my parents aren't gonna invade my privacy. But...

            I kinda love how different writing systems look, so guess what? I kept doing the same thing, simply because I love it and I think they look beautiful. Maybe I am going to forget everything when I am 60? Well, maybe, but if I'm alive, AI will probably be able to decipher everything ( ꈍ◡ꈍ)

Here I went back to using my modified Hiragana. It is all mixed: Sometimes I use transliterated words from other languages, conjunctions from Chinese or Japanese, sometimes conjugation and structure from other languages...Although it looks like normal Japanese:)Here it is! Using the Korean alphabet again, but now with cool collages! (๑ > ᴗ < ๑)

I don't know why but I love this one. Maybe because of the organization, or maybe because I drew my college crush on the right page... You have to admit that he looks cute

Here I was trying to explore cursive writing when writing Hanzi, but heavens, that's difficult...And there's a drawing my friend made! Basically she tried to draw my type.
