This class brings me so much joy.

This here is my bear of a brother #jordanmatthewuribelopez or just #jordanlopez as he loves to randomly say. He is not very verbal and is considered severely #developmentallydisabled but I believe he is more than special and he specifically has a high level of #intuition. Just a few minutes ago as I was helping him out of the shower before brushing his teeth, I was thinking about a certain someone I used to work with and ideas I have to further establish and propel the work we have already done together. Said not a word about it to my brother, but he kept saying this person's name repeatedly. Was weird to hear him say it because I had not used the name around him before, but he knew it and does know many more things. Somehow though, he is locked inside himself emotionally and creatively. Sometimes I feel he has not progressed but rather has shown a reversal in his development at times. I can display examples daily but choose not to provide videos or photographic evidence. Just want to say I love him dearly and feel throughout the last few decades, he at times has been the only reason I still alive. I keep telling myself I must be around to help in any way I can indefinitely and might have to make the choice to be his legal guardian sooner than later. He does not have an ig or fb page and will not be able to see this, and we really do not need any pity parties, but I am proud to call him my brother and appreciate the unconditional love he has shown me. Because I definitely have been a bad example and neglected him at times, still am and do really.
Spread the word to end the word. Stop using this term. It's not okay. #retard #retarded #intellectualdisabilities #developmentallydisabled #disabilities #rword #spreadthewordtoendtheword #militaryspecialneedsnetwork
when i was younger (in hs mostly) i was called the r-slur a number of times & also asked if i was autistic (in a way meant to be used as an insult)
but at the time i interpreted it differently bak then bc i didnt know i was developmentally disabled
it still ??? hurt ??? tho ??
like idk, bc i was struggling w a lot of stuff & ....??? but i didnt kno i was dd
& like idk if they were srsly implying that i was r******
also bc the word was (& still is tbh) flung around as casual insult
& now i do know i dnt know what to think about it
Ann Schaab, 10, who has Down Syndrome, had a memorable day when she was able to meet with her favorite hockey player, Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitols. Ann was skating at a camp for the Washington Ice Dogs, a hockey team for developmentally disabled individuals, where Ovechkin was a guest coach. While other young players might be intimidated by one of the NHL’s biggest stars, Ann not only spoke with him, but invited Ovechkin on a date, according to news reports.Ovechkin accepted the invitation: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capitals-insider/wp/2014/10/06/alex-ovechkins-awesome-dinner-with-a-10-year-old. #DownSyndrome #DownSyndromeAwareness #DevelopmentallyDisabled #DisabilityRights #DisabilityAwareness #NHL #WashingtonCapitols #Ovechkin
