     She’s been scouring the shelves for a long while, mostly perusing the used-book section for any ‘gold’ that she could read on her downtime or while stretching. Her gaze falters a moment as she discovers the children’s section, lighting up right away as her mind collides into the reality of her single-mom life. Cadenza would be all too ecstatic if she came home with a little something for her. She’s not above it, though her Abuela spoils her quite a bit as is. “Excuse me -- “ she asks the book attendant. “Do you happen to have a Spanish or Italian section?” she inquires for the hell of it, Avalon thinks it’s a good idea to start ‘Enza off in foreign language, be a solid Trilingual like her momma.

            ‘ cheer practice is cancelled, man. go find somewhere else to gawk. ‘ still, she stayed behind on the bleachers even as the school slowly emptied, cigarette held between her fingers. coach would usually give her a hard time about it, but there was no one around to get on her case now and it was still better to stay then go home.

          “MATTY! It’s D&D NIGHT!” Jakob runs into the room as best he can, practically tripping over himself but he attempts to play it off, leaning into the wall. “Toss out the ole ball ‘n chain -- sorry Gracie --- let’s go!!”

she   was   so   used   to   them   just   joking   —   the   constant   back   and   forth,   talking   a   lot,   but   about   nothing   important.   but   those   words   come   out   of   his   mouth   and   she   catches   herself   sitting   more   upright,   breath   lodging   in   her   throat.   she   had   never   been   told   something   like   that   before   —   at   least   not   that   she   could   remember.         ‘   wow.   ’         she   finally   speaks,   leaning   back   just   a   bit.            ‘   you   actually   think   that ?   ’            her   voice   lowers.            ‘   maybe.   ’            why   was   it   so   hard   to   accept   such   a   compliment?!   especially   when   it   comes   from   such   a   genuine   place.               we   accept   the   love   we   think   we   deserve.   /  @deviilchild​

          Had he been watching Lou? Maybe, a little. But he couldn’t be blamed. It’d been a decade or so since he last laid eyes on her. Shaun wanted to announce himself, say hi, but how exactly does one come back from the dead? He didn’t know and as of that night, he wasn’t quite ready to find out. Instead, he followed the guy she’d been hanging around, wanting to make sure he wasn’t trash like some of the others Lou had involved herself with.

Like him.

“You got a light?” He asked as he leaned against the side of the building, acting like he was just taking a break from the noise of the club inside. Shaun pinched the cigarette between his lips and lifted the pack in his hand to offer the guy one.

Might as well be nice-ish. For now.
