"The Devil Woshiper Woods"

I was watching Diary of a Wimpy Kid the other day and the Halloween scene in the "Devil Worshiper Woods" totally reminded me of when I was a kid and had to walk to school alone.

I used to take this old dirt path that ran from the back of my apartment complex all the way to the backside of the school. This path took you by this creepy grove of old, gnarled trees and when we were kids we used to think it was home to evil devil worshipers who sacrificed kids for their dark rituals.

(What can I say? It was the late 80s. Satanic panic was still EVERYWHERE.)

I remember how we used to dare each other to go in there alone all the time. And believe me, it was scary enough to do on a regular day but when the fog rolled in, it was damn near impossible. And the fog came in a lot as we were right on the coast.

Needless to say, as we got older we realized it was more a hang out for homeless people and teenagers looking to do drugs than it was a home for devil worshipers.

But damn did it scare the shit out of us as kids...
