Valentine’s Day Prompts
20. “This is an unholy amount of cheesy romance novels.”
“And I plan on getting through most of them today.” Skye answered smoothly as she turned the page of the one she was reading.
Maeve pouted. “But it’s Saint Valentine’s Day! Don’t you want to do something?”
“Of course I do sweetheart. It’s sit here and judge these books as much as I like. You’re welcome to join me.”
Well, reading’s not the most boring thing Maeve can think of, but it’s also not one of the ways she would pass an afternoon. She hmm’d as she debated. Potentially boring activity versus spending time with her girlfriend. Decisions, decisions...
“Hey what’re you guys doin’?” Evie popped over the back of the couch. Upon seeing her two partners sitting comfortably on the couch, she made a beeline for the last seat available and flopped onto it, kicking her feet up so that her legs were over Maeve with her feet in Skye’s lap. Skye simply lifted her book without taking her eyes off it and kept reading.
“Reading.” Maeve answered.
“Nice invisible book loser.”
“Fine, Skye’s reading and I’m debating reading because it’s boring.”
Evie tilted her head. “So turn it into a game. Like...a bingo card of overused cliches and tropes.”
Now that sounded a lot more like fun, and judging by Skye’s side-eye, she’s curious as well.
They spent half the afternoon finding materials for the boards and writing down cliches - “Don’t forget confession in the rain, that’s a staple!” - and the other half reading a book of their own choosing. For legitimacy, they had to show each other the sentence showing their ticked off square, which soon devolved into more giggling and roasting than actual reading. But by Skye’s smiles and Evie’s infectious laughter, Maeve thought they didn’t mind it very much.
