Which of the pubs in East Sussex is ideal for partying?

We all know these days that the finest of fine dining Sussex has to offer is extremely special, but there are times when my work colleagues want to do nothing more than party. Rather than sit down in an organised fashion to savour a delicious meal, they prefer to be standing, having fun and perhaps even doing a little dancing. I should point out that I am not saying they expect to be in one of the region’s loudest and lewdest nightclubs, but they want a bit more than a traditional British pub.

The good news for me is that there are a number of excellent Devils Dyke pubs to choose from, and none of them are far away from where I live. I have always been mightily impressed by the sheer number of Sussex gastropubs that I have to choose from, but I also love the fact that there is plenty of variety on offer. No matter what type of place I am on the lookout for, the chances are I will find it with ease. I really do have a lot to be grateful for these days.

How does eating in Devils Dyke pubs sound?

There are a number of excellent pubs around Devils Dyke these days, and each of them can claim to have an atmosphere and a character all of its own. I am a huge fan in particular of various rural pubs near Brighton, and in recent times I think I have been to all of them. And because I like to take to two wheels sometimes, the best of the lot are pubs for cyclists in South Downs.

I like to pop into the pub on a Sunday lunchtime for a cold drink and maybe a sandwich. As soon as I settle into my comfy chair and take my first sip, I know that I’ll find it difficult to get up and leave. The finest pubs in West Sussex are always ready and waiting to offer the warmest of welcomes, and that surely has to be a good thing.

Perfect fish and chips in a perfect Sussex gastropub

Many of my friends never know what to order in pubs in West Sussex, but that’s definitely not the case for me. I go to rural pubs near Brighton with the confidence that comes with knowing exactly what I will be having to eat. For me, fish and chips is the finest meal of them all, especially when I can enjoy it in Devils Dyke pubs that have a reputation for excellent food.

The freshest cod encased in crispy beer batter is almost impossible to resist, especially if it’s accompanied by a large portion of chips and a little ramekin of pea puree. Gastropubs in Sussex tend to specialise in fish dishes, and I for one support this completely. There are a number of pubs around Devils Dyke that offer superb fish and chips, so I know I live in the ideal location.

Quiz nights are fun in Sussex pubs

I’ve always been a big fan of quiz nights, so when a new one started up in my favourite Sussex gastropub I had to go along. I loved it right from the start, the atmosphere was friendly, the quiz itself was not too serious and the food was out of this world. In fact, I might just have found the best place to eat in Sussex and across the south-east. When it comes to fine dining Brighton is rightly famous, but there some Devils Dyke pubs that will always be worth a visit.

My team didn’t win the quiz, sadly, but we had a great time. There are some excellent rural pubs near Brighton to be explored these days, and holding events such as this will surely bring in yet more customers. I visited the place again on Sunday lunchtime, and I was impressed to find it was one of the more popular cycle friendly pubs in Sussex, judging by the number of people wearing lycra cycling tops.

Will the best Sussex pubs continue to improve?

I have been visiting a number of pubs for dogs in Sussex over the years, and I’m always amazed by how they seem to get better all the time. Of course there have been many Devils Dyke pubs which have failed to survive since the last economic downturn, but those that remained seem to have gone from strength to strength. No wonder more and more tourists from around the world continue to rave about the quality of our rightly popular rural pubs in Sussex.

I am particularly fond of spending time in the great oudoors, especially when the sun is shining and the temperatures are high. I like Brighton, I like Worthing and I like Eastbourne, but given the choice I’d rather be in a rural idyll, especially if it includes time spent in my favourite pubs in the South Downs National Park.

Gastropubs in Sussex provide the perfect venue for a family celebration

I have always loved the various pubs in West Sussex, but I have to admit I enjoy them just as much for their food as their selection of drinks. On a summer afternoon, I like nothing more than a freshly made sandwich and a cold beer in one of the pubs around Devils Dyke, and it’s at times like these when I enjoy my own company, especially if I have the daily newspaper to read. Of course, many of these venues are also perfect for large-scale family celebrations.

 If you happen to be organising a family party in the coming months, and I really don’t envy you if that is the case, you may want to go for a small tour of the area in order to find the Sussex gastropubs which tick all the right boxes. Once you’ve found the right one, you can then start to think about choosing menu items and perhaps arranging for a cake and some table decorations. The evening dining Brighton seems to love most could be anything from an exotic curry to a traditional plate of good old British bangers and mash. If you’re not sure about which cuisine will take your fancy on any particular evening, just take a walk down one of the main roads and something will definitely take your fancy. And when you sit down and take your first delicious mouthful, you will suddenly be hit with the realisation that the best place to eat in Brighton at that particular moment will be the place you’re sitting in.
