Painting Emily's Living Room Step 2: A New Look

My living room turned out gorgeous!  Devine Color was a dream to work with- hardly any drips and really good coverage (I used the Delicate finish).  I find myself wandering into the living room simply to admire the paint color and the way the fall sunlight looks when it hits the walls.  Doesn't Moss make the yellow fireplace glow? I can't believe what a difference it has made in the feel of my home.  The biggest surprise is the ceiling. Gretchen advised me to paint it the same Devine Moss as the walls, but I was a little afraid becuase  It seemed so dark when I started. But as you can see from the photos, Moss looks mysteriously lighter on the ceiling, and brings a softness to the entire room. I thought I needed to re-decorate the whole room, but what I really needed was a change of color scenery.   -Emily

Painting Emily's Living Room Step One: The Color Chooses You

I have been working for Devine Color for about six months now, but I had never painted a room in my house using Devine.  My living room was overdue for a color update, so I used the Devine Color Discovery Cards to find out what color it wanted to be.  The yellow fireplace brick with pink (!) mortar had always stumped me - what the heck goes with THAT combo?

All I had to do was hold the color cards up to surfaces around my room - including the troublesome fireplace-  and one color palette was a clear winner. From there I just had to narrow it down to one choice from the Cool Grasses and Evergreens collection. To my surprise, I discovered the living room wanted to be a soft gray green: Devine Moss.  It was not a color I had previously considered- I was looking at much warmer tones to "match" the room, when in fact what it needed was a cooler, softer hue to balance out all the warmth in my furniture and woodwork.    -Emily
