Thank you for answering! So if the mother has to be han junketsu, then are a they a completely separate species? How did the first han junketsu come into being? Are humans, dragons and han junketsu all descended from the same type of creature?
Ahh – sorry this took a while to get out due to a few things going on around the home, lets get this answer down, shall we?
Difference in species ;;
In the shortest of sense, Han Junketsu is their own species or rather, I guess a better term would be that they are an evolution of humans and dragons. They were not always there on the surface world and rather, were created as time went on and both Dragons and Humans evolved, this is why Han Junketsu also have tribal formations ( a lot alike humans with their social structure ) but also have different forms of rankings, and usually the leader of a tribe would the be strongest ( no matter the gender ).
How they come to be && did they come from all of the same ;;
The only explanation I can come up with that is logical, is the fact that a god had started the gene within a human. A mutation of a genetic that came about with magic being a high influence within the body. Magic and the slow coming of becoming a ‘ were ‘ like creature combined, forcing a new evolution in the human tree.
This also, can link back to if humans and dragons were once the same creature. Technically, yes it does. Very far back in the evolution chain, but yes it does. In technicality, that would mean every beast within Kosmos would also come from the same one being, just branched out with magic, and how that ‘ god ‘ above wanted to see it as.
Take it this way -- the god who runs Kosmos from above? He has had his fun with making shit up as he went along. As well as letting the world rot. Han Junketsu came out of a random spur of the moment, alike werewolves, vampires and other beasts that he now wishes he hadn’t made.
Again, thanks for asking such an interesting question. Sorry for the wait and I hope you have a good day / night.
Are han junketsu looked down on like their name suggests? Is there a hierarchy between humans, dragons and han junketsu? Does junketsu refer to pure human blood, pure dragon blood or are both considered to be pure and mixing pure blood is bad?
Han Junketsu / Ibrida are looked down upon due to being a mixture -- hybrid species that could also be classified as demons due to how much power can be within the top tier of the tribes. Think of them alike of a werewolf -- but, they can control the transformation ( as long as their anger doesn’t get ahead of them first ). And that is the very reason why humans hate or rather fear them. They are, in a sense, a power house if one has never dealt with one before.
When you ask about hierarchy, do you mean in power, or social standers ( don’t know why I am asking, just going to put both of them down here for you anyway )?
In the case of a who’s more powerful than who, Han Junketsu have the best of both worlds, but aren’t much stronger than dragons themselves, leaving little old humans to be at the last part of the food chain. Han Junketsu, while they have three forms ( a human, in between [ more so classified as there ‘ demon ‘ form ] and a dragon ), giving them a bit of lee way in a sense but that is also their down fall. Dragons and humans don’t have to wait for their bones to shift or their energy to spike, they just do -- Han Junketsu have to go through the painful process of changing forms which includes the whole skeletal and muscle structure changing.
But as for the social -- Han Junketsu are on the lowest tier. Dragons, while kicked from society, do not always play nice with their Han Junketsu counterpart. Humans being the highest of that bunch, due to them scaring the dragons and han junketsu off most of the ‘ important ‘ land.
As for the last question in this ask, all cases are different for Han Junketsu. They can be born from either a human or Han Junketsu mother, while their male counterpart can only be human to produce a Han Junketsu offspring if the mother is Han Junketsu herself. In short terms, they have to have a Han Junketsu parent in order to be a Han Junketsu; two humans can’t make a sudden dragon baby but there have been cases where two Han Junketsu have had a human offspring.
Han Junketsu really only means that they have a portion of both dragon blood and a some what human blood. There could be a case where a vampire had some fun with a Han Junketsu and they would have a Han Junketsu offspring. The key to being claimed as a Han Junketsu is that one just needs to be partially human and partially dragon.
[ han junketsu info ] . [ kosmos’ lore tag ]
In short this was really fun for me to write about and if you have any more questions about either the lore or the game in general, please feel free to ask. So, Thank you Anon, and I hope this helps with understanding these silly misfits!
The name is literally half blood within the Japanese language as they are hybrid species between mortal and dragons. On some terms though, they may be called from the Latin standpoint as ibrida.
Characteristics;;
Skeletal Structure.
Their skeletal structure changes depending on what form they take but, the basics is that their bones are hallowed out with a strong exterior. When going from human to dragon, bones will elongate and break to form the knew joints of being a quadruped creature. Wing bones break from the skin at the shoulder joints, tearing up the muscle to replace with the new muscle needed to support such mass as well as the tail bone elongating to becoming a full out tail. Bone from the skull base will also begin to protrude from the back of the head to create horns.
Scales && Webbing.
Skin will turn to scales in a time of crises for a han junketsu as well as when they begin to transform in their dragon state. The webbing of their wings is stretched, stained skin that connects and lays over the wing bones to allow them stable flight. Their scales color are not based on genes.
Warm && Cold Blooded.
Depending on their genetic pool, han junketsu may become warm or cold blooded. This is all dependent on the parental ( and grand parental ) gene pool. This can cause winters or summers to become very harsh for a han junketsu.
Size.
Based on habitat and their parental genes, a han junketsu may grow to the size of mountains or, be as small as a house cat. Usually though, they are in the middle range, starting off at seven feet off the ground ( from paw to head, excluding horns and wingspan ). It takes one hundred humans years for them to grow to full size which can be anywhere from ten feet tall, to 40 feet tall without wingspan.
Transformations.
It is a very painful process. Imagine breaking a bone. Now imagine every bone in your body is basically breaking all in the matter of a minute. While some have complete control of when they transform, others may not have the luxury and their emotions can cause them to change.
Another thing that han junketsu have to keep in mind is that when they transform, they can not immediately jump into action without straining ( or even breaking ) bones and muscle due to the extreme stress that they put their body through with transforming.
Elements.
Han junketsu are very elemental based, though most are only able to master one element as it is a large struggle to do any other ones, especially the opposite of what they were born with. Alike their scales, their element is not based on gene. Instead, it seems to be their soul that has the element within it.
a han junketsu may have one of the following elements;;
Fire ( Weak to water ) are of the feisty type that have ‘pride issues’. In simple talk, the fire han junketsu are known to be the ones to start fights the most within the group but also seem to understand some of the hardest problems that people face.
Water ( Weak to electricity ) they are agile within the waves but tend to be of the more laid back sort. They never grow too angry without reason but when they reach their limit, a wave will follow.
Earth ( Weak to wind) are the han junketsu that love to cover themselves in dirt and explore. Many of their young can be seen being trapped under rocks before breaking free of them, do all to their curiosity for the things around them, giving them a childish attitude at times but they can be some of the wisest of the han junketsu .
Wind ( Weak to ice ) they are the kings and queens of flying and hunting without a trace. They are clever but only when it comes to serious matters as most tend to be not so firm on the ground. Wind han junketsu have a medium tolerance towards their anger though, and one should be careful if they come upon one that is upset.
Ice ( Weak to fire ) the masters of knowing what cold hearts are like, they tend to stay in a less populated area and live with each other. They know how to pick apart a being with their ice and know when the snow storms will set in but are one of the calmest han junketsu to be around.
Electricity ( Weak to earth ) some of the worst tempered han junketsu but are also some of the strongest. They can call large storms with their rage, wrecking all in its path if they so please, they usually are the type to live alone, but some can be seen with the other elements.
If one uses the opposite of what they are assigned with, it will weaken them greatly in the a fight and may even kill the han junketsu if the user is stronger than they.
Light && Shadow.
Unlike elements, light and shadow are two different magic types that are based on the genes of the parents. That being said, both have their specialty when being used –
light;;
used for healing, guarding and enchantments ( better classified as defensive ) but, can be used to blind and burn shadows, and those who use shadow magic.
shadows;;
used for summons, transportation and binding ( better classified as offensive ) but, can blind and freeze light magic users.
Behaviors;;
Habitat && Group Organization.
Contrary to popular belief, han junketsu live in a tribal format and like to stay within packs. They have lived in the forest to the mountains, but they stay grouped together and this usually leads to han junketsu from one tribe being good at something another isn’t so great at.
The tribes are split up into the leader ( the strongest of the tribe ), the healers, hunters, and teachers. Each job needs to be done in the group so that everything runs smoothly, though, the leader is usually questioned and required to fight anyone who thinks they may be better though this may be voided as there can be a tribal discussion to keep the current leader or to appoint one.
Hunting && Diet.
Mostly meat, they are heavily carnivorous and can get extremely ill from eating floral. While they can eat wheat, it is mostly fruits and vegetables that can upset their stomachs. Hunting on the other hand is done quickly and efficiently; they either target from the sky ( when in the mountains ) or hunt on the ground ( in the forests ) chasing after their prey and going for a neck shot on most wildlife creatures.
Reproduction.
Han junketsu can actually be born from a human mother ( or han junketsu mother ), as their gene trait is the dominant when in the uterus and does not cause a human mother harm, as the young are live born and do not fully take on traits of a han junketsu until the age of ten ( though there are circumstances that a child may change early, or later due to habitat or stress ).
Communication.
When in human form, they are able to talk alike any human being would, they have the same vocalization except for the ability to growl deep within the chest and hiss. The problem is when they are in their dragon form, the ability of speech vocally is cut, forcing them to use a telepathy method if they want to speak to humans. The ability to do such is caused by the immense amount of magic that flows within them, and their souls being able to connect to another’s due to such.
( Technology ) Beyond popular belief, it is not a world that lacks technological advancements. Air ships ( including jet planes and blips ), building structure, electronics ( such as robots and androids ) and medical advancements ( creating clones, chimeras and curing diseases that we know would kill a person slowly ) are all a part of society, but not in the lower countries. Akad controls the flow of technology in the lower countries -- causing some of the people to only have the bare minimum in tech.
While the main focus of Akad and the ruler, Dai, is to achieve absolute understanding in the medical field, it is not for a good reason. Immortality has always been on the mind of the high class and the King is closer to it than one would think.
( Religion ) While there is several religions, and there are some people who would die to say that there is the right one, they are all mostly the same story more or less with a different urban legend to go by.
Akad, for example, believes that there is only one higher power, naming it god and saying that he makes the rules -- that he blesses the next in line for the thrown and that is why, who ever is King or Queen never get judgement passed on to them for doing things to the people, as they are as strong as the god they praise. This also includes the mentioning of an angel, those with feathers against their back who protect ( and slaughter ) souls to bring them back to the gates above to be judged.
Fai on the other hand believe in phoenixes to be the gods that all have their own certain meaning, but above all else, reincarnation through the good that one does for others and their own soul. Not only that but they also have the concept that if one is bad they will be sent to the deepest depths of Kosmos’s core. This is where demons run and flock in numbers, they are the ones that eat the souls of the lost and destroy the souls that have sinned.
Olk, is completely different than those three though, believing in the concept of ‘ essences ‘ and treating everything as you would want to be treated. the essence of life is honored by planting new trees, taking care of fallen animals and the essence of death is showed honor by never wasting a game they kill, and showing respects to their, and other’s dead ancestors. Not only is it with those two essences though, as shadows and light are also worshiped in their own little way.
( Magic && Alchemy ) While magic is banned if it is elemental, there are still many people and creatures that use it. The same can not be said for alchemy as it is free practice to anyone who can master such an art.
While there are many different types of magic -- for it is an umbrella term for the ability to manipulate the world by a non - physical mean, there are mainly three types: elemental, light and shadow, or neutral. All of these magic require the person to have energy though for what they are using the magic for and if they cast without having the energy needed, bad things will happen.
Neutral magic is mostly moving, changing or healing things and is very weak, considering how the other two connect right to the soul of the very person using them. On the other hand, while elemental and light / shadow magic may be considered the same thing, they are not. Elemental takes on one of the six elements ( earth, fire, water, wind, ice, electricity ) while light / shadow magic take on one or the other, and can cause some varied effects.
Due to how typical elemental magic is, light / shadow magic will be explained instead. Just like how elemental magic users can make familiars out of the element that they can use, so can one who is either light or shadow. The catch is, light magic users are not very good at that sort of thing while shadow users excel.
Light magic is what one would consider a passive magic, it can boost a persons abilities as well heal quite well. One with light magic could also use such to burn their enemies quite easily if their light is stronger than the other’s. Shadow rather, is for the offensive, binding, concealing and being able to be used as a weapon. They have they ability to freeze their enemy, just alike the light being able to burn -- they just have to be stronger.
Finally, to talk about Alchemy. It is a variation of neutral magic, as a being’s energy is still put forth to create the ending transaction yet, it is mostly used in fixing things and even within the medical field. It is used to perfect, purify and perhaps even mature an object -- but don’t believe that it is all used for good. While it has been used in the lower countries to make life easier, it has also been used to make weapons, to destroy the lives of thousands of those captured and imprisoned within Akad’s dungeons. It itself, is maybe too dangerous for many to even attempt to try.
[ kos - mos ] a universe seen as a whole
a system of thought
a dying world
( BASICS ) It is a planet that is vast, open and has technology a man could only dream of in our present day. Within it, there are three main continents, separated by air and water. That said, it is a lot like Earth even with magic flowing through the land and gravity literally pulling islands into the sky. Two moons orbit around it’s mass, creating the tidal waves that have pulled land to the sky. Technology, like stated in the very beginning is very high tech but with the lack of cars. While they have air crafts, ships and vehicles of war, their normal transportation on the ground is by horse or by walking themselves.
( Countries ) They may be separated but they are ruled by one dominate being who runs off of the monarchal government. The list bellow details each country and their role within the society, as well as their people and possible magical beasts that may live within the area.
Fai [ an island of fire ] -- This is home to warm weather and farm land ( for livestock ) well away from the reason the very island was created, a volcano at it’s very base that shares the countries name. This is also the place where mining is heavily endorsed, as well as blacksmithing for Akad. The people there are fighters at heart and are danger seekers it seems.
Within this country are priests and priestess to the gods of reincarnation and destiny. They give tribute to these gods that are PHOENIXES and prey for the souls whom have passed on. For centuries, the priest in charge has seen other mythical beings show and give their thanks to these gods, such as dragons and shadows.
Many believe that within the rain forests bellow the volcano that there may be an entry way to the underworld, or Hell, yet, there have been many sitings of Griffins, Satyrs, Unicorns and perhaps even witches.
Olk [ a land of earth ] -- The scent in the air is of the gentle breeze and the hearts of farmers tending to their crops. This is a large country, fitting well over a million humans ( unknown number of mythical beings within the mix ) as it has a capital in the very center of it all where cases are judged.
While most farmers do only have crops, they tend to also have a few horses ( as it gives them the ability to travel a bit faster with their goods ). Yet, this land is not all farmers and country men. There are tribes of both demon hunters, and demons alike. These tribes, while near and far, were there to either help the people, or destroy them.
The demon hunters are proud men and women who have traits from the blessed to hunt down monsters that destroy mankind. They were the hope of getting a good hunt in without being hurt and are usually considered the mercenaries of the wild, as they work on their own accord.
As for the demons that lived within the tribes, such as Han Junketsu and Vampires ( since they are human like in appearance ) would tend to have special rituals and ways to get into and out of trouble. They would teach their young the same way hunters would but what some may not believe is that they are not all bad.
Within the deep forests of this country one would also see another rumor come true. Shadows of living creatures like wolves and elk spring to life as beings of the night who grow bigger as the moon rises and smaller as it falls. They are not to be taken lightly as even the small shards of them that are just existence can turn a human mad.
Akad [ a country of sky && monsters royalty ] -- Those who are of high class or have enough money are the ones allowed to live in the sky. It floats above the treacherous seas like a cloud except for the rock that chips from it’s bottom. This is a country that prospers from all the others and where the taxes are used to make the royalty’s life better. This is where the army is trained and changed into kids to men who have guns and blades, ready to kill without secondary thought.
Akad is a place where hospitals are the best, medical care being able to give one who lost a limb or organ a new one without much problem except for the cost that is... Unless one wants to become an experiment instead. Dark rumors fill the streets of just normal men in the cities feeling, hearing the strange cries from underneath of humans and monsters alike. It is said that the men in uniform will cringe if you ask why there are screams down bellow.
Noa [ an ocean of life ] -- A country better forgotten, no one talks about it as no one remembers when it last stood above the seas’ water. Yet, there are many legends and secrets that continue to flow from the place sunken into the depths.
One states that those whom have died in the city forgotten have turned into Merpeople or shadows Umbra of the deep who help good souls along if they get stuck within the water or guide them to their resting place if they drown.
Another says that if one drives a boat over the water that a monster from the deep will swallow it up whole, leaving those who are on it to never be reincarnated again.
This country use to be home of fisherman and cultural phenomenons like dancing and fabulous music. A rumor has been passed down that the people of the country all planned to rebel at once and so, the island was sunk into the depths -- this may be true as when a royal was asked about it --
“ They belonged to the fishes they loved so much. “
