Uncle’s Letter
Dex,
How are you my boy? It has been awhile. Time has surely flown by these past years and my part of me wishes to take a hold of Father Time and give him a good shake so I can have a few more seconds with you. Why I can still remember the days when you were but, a wee lad! Nose deep in a book of science or history. Thought I had a future scholar on my hands!
Which reminds me. I still find it strange that you took up a career chasing childhood make-believe monsters over a career of logic. Never fully wrapped my head around since.., it felt so different to you. A young lad who would get in trouble with the local priest all because he demanded proof of his claims about miracles and what not. But, in the same breath, I am not shocked either. If my memory serves me right, you tried to prove the Roman God, Jupiter was real by standing outside and shouting at him to strike you down with lightning. Gave me and your aunt a fright when a bolt of lighting got so close to hitting you.
Sometimes I wonder if all this supernatural investigating stems from your hatred of not understanding or never liking an answer that wasn’t clean cut. Maybe I am to be blamed for that, bedding the seed of scientific evidence and logic into you at such a young age. But, I may be jumping to conclusions on that.
I wish you a swell birthday my dear Dex. Please do stop by and visit me and your aunt sometime!
-Your Uncle, Richard M. Pilot.
