The citizens of Chania, on the island of Crete, were astonished this morning to learn that there is an underground network pipeline dating from the Venetian times which connects the center of town with the eastern district of Koum Kapi.
The following unique pictures show how three local citizens walked along the underground tunnels built by the Venetians, departing from the bus station, right in front of the Municipal Market, and heading towards the sea in order to reach the former quarter of the tanneries, Koum Kapi.
Pavlos Bouzakis, a photographer and also a worker at the Water Company DEYAH kept an account of the trail. He explained that, together with two colleagues, they followed the mixed network that the Venetians used for rain as well as for unclean waters and that the road leads them to the seaside area of Koum Kapi. The underground exploration was possible thanks to the permit granted by the General Director of DEYAH as well as all the employees working at Chania’s sewer network.

LA-based musician Vanda delivers cheeky single ‘Queen V,’ an empowering hip-hop production that fuses a playful energy with powerful self-confidence for a bop that has us reaching for the replay button. A candid track on theme of self-love led by Vanda’s impressive rap bars and a gritty soundscape, sees the rising star tap into a message of growth and change. Bursting with a musical talent that she has honed since the age of three and an overload of charm, Vanda’s music is as fierce and fun in equal servings, offsetting her mature artistry with an instantly likeable tongue-in-cheek approach.Inspired by the lessons she learnt during quarantine, the booming beats and anthemic presence of ‘Queen V,’ give way to a thoughtful message about rebirth and growth in a move towards major change that she refers to as “a shedding of the skin.” Speaking about the recording process behind the track, ”What started off as just playing around, shifted into a powerful essence of energy Joel (my collaborator) and I really fell in love when we realized we had a special vibe in the chorus and the pre chorus,” adding that it allowed her to tap into a whole new sound within her. Back in June, hip-hop/pop/punk-rock chameleon Rico Nasty unveiled a swaggering summer track called ‘Magic,’ which now has a brand-new music video. Featuring the Maryland-born performer dancing in a variety of sharp outfits and hairstyles, plus riding a dirt bike, ‘Magic’ kind of looks like if Spice Girls’ ‘Say You’ll Be There’ video met Mad Max. Which is to say, it’s highly stylish and entertaining. [via Uproxx]
Following the lo-fi grime of ‘Ultimate Dinner Party’, UK rapper Deyah makes a solid return with another vibey release titled ‘Shoreditch’. Picking up the pace from her usual laid-back approach, Ten Billion Dreams' production houses a pounding bassline, hammering percussion and the occasional horn lick. Revealing a soulful edge to her voice, Deyah paces through the track uncovering her self-affirming bars and slick wordplay. With precise lyrical flow, the rapper dips in and out of her native languages including Yoruba and French. [via Trench]
Canadian hip-hop artist Naya Ali is on the verge of unveiling her new album Godspeed:Elevated, but in the meantime, she shares this new single ‘Str8 Up’ to warm her fans up to the new release. The track has a bouncy and moody trap aesthetic that has three distinct parts all while showcasing Ali's masterful songwriting capabilities. The verses see her in her element as she details the obstacles and hurdles she had to overcome as a young black woman in the music industry. Armed with fiery flows and a dynamic cadence to match, Ali shows her resilience as one who is fully focused on her goals. The refrain section lowers the energy and here Ali delivers a melodic performance filled with emotions and an honest look at her current reality. Once again, Ali flips the script with a hi-octane chorus to complete her mission. [via Earmilk]
South London’s Bryn has unleashed the video for her latest tune, ‘Lean’. Produced by Stewszy, this drop is another lively one from Bryn who takes on the drill beat with a fun approach and heaps of energy. The visuals mirror the track’s uplifting feel and are made up of quick shots of Bryn in good spirits with her peoples. [via GMR Daily]
Robin Knightz has shared her new single 'Composed'. The Manchester rap riser stays true to her roots on the single, which finds the 24 year old talent speaking her truth. Respectful to her surroundings, her tongue in cheek bars even make room for a cheeky Vincent Kompany reference. Out now, the bubbling production pushes her to the next level - Robin Knightz' first release on new Sony subsidiary 5K Records, it's a real line in the sand for the Manchester artist. She comments... "'Composed' was recorded in October 2020, that current time having such an impact on everyone including myself and the people that helped me create this. We didn’t really have an idea on what we wanted to make, we were just all tryna be productive in such testing times." [via Clash]
