Working out to be functional and healthy (i.e. go muscles) will always keep you looking good. But, working out to just look good (i.e. show muscles) and not to be functional will result in overuse injuries and a physical breakdown. Go muscles keep you looking good and healthy over your lifetime. Show muscles may look good for awhile, but eventually overuse injuries and dysfunction will set in and your workouts will become restricted and you won't look as good as if you had followed the functional path.
