realltalk much of fandom made me hate thorin like what does it say about a character when they're usually the one written as an abuser consistently and i am not the type of trash fan who likes reading about abusers

Anon, I’m gonna show you to my fic rec that have an accurate take on Thorin’s character. Please do read them.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: Thorin Oakenshield is not an abuser and it’s blatant mischaracterisation to portray him as such. I’m sad that the fandom has made you feel like he is but he is not. I’m also sad that a part of the fandom has decided to portray him as such. Thorin is not perfect and he has a dark side, it’s true, but he. Is. Not. An abuser.

lol dfp means “dark fuck prince”, and refers to the old and incorrect characterization of thorin as all sexually-aggressive and, and, just not being his toasty marshmallow true self, i explained better here and omg i have a dfp!thorin tag on my blog

Okay this is off the topic of ace!bagginshield, but I have to talk to you about the subject of protecting Thorin Oakenshield bc I cannot be the only one who has x'ed out of a story before bc they mistreat this baby

WELL IT DEPENDS FOR ME.

i absolutely will not tolerate dfp!thorin, to me this is the highest form of thorin abuse. i’ll close that tab so FAST YOU CANNOT BELIEVE. but if he’s struggling or having a rough time in a story and i think there’s hope, i’ll stick with it. if i don’t think it’s going to end well, then BYE.

thorin needs to be protected at all costs, i actually literally JUST deleted an ask from another “thorin is an asshole” anon. ??? when will it end?? i forgot to do the damn “ignore” thing tho, i’m so mad. i could have found out who they were. -_-

dfp is such a good term omg. people should start using "warning: contains dark fuck prince" in all their ooc fics. i get that sometimes they just mean the dragon sickness but c'mon even thEN he's never *totally* gone to the point where he has no emotion. he's always vulnerable and its in the middle of the sickness that he 1. cries when bilbo "betrays" him 2. said sickness completely fades away at the sight of a wonderful hobbit holding a simple little acorn. 3. needs bilbo to be safer w/mithril

this is the TOTALLY INACCURATE characterization of thorin that includes:

thorin being really sexually aggressive

thorin NEVER blushing because he’s too cool and smooth for that

thorin is SUPER sexually experienced and usually plays opposite a virgin!bilbo

a thorin that would never ever cry

a thorin that would never ever EVER bottom

thorin basically being all dark and suave and like, really emotionally level and lukewarm about everyone he “cares” about

obviously we all know that thorin is actually a besotted lovesick dork that blushes whenever bilbo compliments him and literally cannot believe that someone like bilbo could ever love someone like him.
