Featuring:
Susato confidence character arc
Kazuma and Ryunosuke getting together
it's explained how Ryunosuke's bloodline gets the last name "Wright"
More focus on Japan than England
Case 1 (tutorial): Japan
Defendant antechamber: Naruhodo recalls the last few years (or so) of studying and proposing reforms, saying to Susato that he’s nervous (and weirdly nauseous + can’t think very straight → hinting that he’s been poisoned) about returning to the courtroom after so long, especially because he’s taking this case because it’s the first Japanese trial with a jury per HIS reform. Susato assures him that she’ll be right by his side as Ryutaro the judicial assistant, and she can help him if he forgets anything
Trial: We meet the new Japanese judge, who tests Naruhodo with some basic question about the case, as per usual
Prosecutor Auchi is still the prosecutor, and he doesn’t actually seem to even see judicial assistant Ryutaro (which is good because according to his wiki, he knows that she’s Susato??), instead focusing all his disdain towards Naruhodo
Hosonaga is one of the witnesses
Ryunosuke wins but then immediately gets poisoned or something at their celebratory dinner
Case 2: Japan
With Ryunosuke in the hospital, it’s up to Susato (with some help from her father and Rei Membami) to figure out who actually poisoned him
We get introduced to a new Japanese prosecutor named Prosecutor Ojonoteki, who is much more refined and intelligent than Prosecutor Auchi
Susato doesn’t believe that the accused actually did it (for whatever reason. Maybe I can accuse Rei Membami again lol), so she defends them in court against Prosecutor Ojonoteki
It’s revealed that Ryunosuke was actually poisoned with some sort of slow acting, hard to catch, but typically fatal poison earlier, but then his dinner got mixed up with a poison that the culprit (just…some random person with no relevance to the main plot) put there for someone else. This weakened Ryunosuke, and both of the poisons accelerated each others’ damaging of Ryunosuke’s immune system
We never find out who put the slow acting but fatal poison in Ryunosuke’s dinner, and Ryunosuke is confined to the hospital for the indefinite future. Susato sends a telegram to Kazuma with the bad news
Case: England
Investigation, part 1: We open in Barok van Zieks’ mansion
Kazuma still(?) lives in Barok van Zieks’ mansion, but Herlock and Iris were over for a “slumber party,” which perplexes Kazuma.
Anyways, he goes to the kitchen/dining room for some breakfast, finds Iris, Herlock, and Barok (awkwardly reading some newspapers. Awkwardly.) already there, and meets Majimena Houji, but none of the other three realize that anything is amiss because Majimena already explained to them that he’s Kazuma’s new judicial assistant.
After some small talk in which Kazuma is trying to politely inquire about the elephant in the room (Majimena), he finally just exclaims “why aren’t any of you telling me who this is????” which shocks Iris.
Someone explains that Majimena is Kazuma’s new judicial assistant fresh off of a steamboat trip from Japan, and Kazuma is lowkey pissed, saying that he wasn’t told by Japan
Majimena explains that he thought that Kazuma already was given a telegram, and Herlock bursts out laughing, explains that he’s been stealing Kazuma’s mail in order to figure out how to forge letters, to Barok’s mild “You do realize there are two prosecutors in the room, yes? One of whom is the Lord Chief Justice?” (he was promoted in the few years’ timeskip) and Kazuma’s annoyance that quickly eases into laughing it off.
We have a few more conversations with Majimena that make his personality clear: a pompous and easily flustered yet intelligent and extremely hardworking young man who's desperate for validation. He's basically Revali
Some murder happens
Trial:
We meet the new English defense lawyer named ASHER WRIGHT, who the audience will immediately deduce is also Phoenix’s ancestor. Asher is renowned for being really good at defending his prestigious clients, but Barok warns Kazuma that he’s notorious for using underhanded tactics and defending mafia bosses and the like.
However, his “gimmick” (like how Franziska has her whip, Barok has his wine, Godot has his coffee, etc) is that he has his kid (BERNARD WRIGHT because the nickname “Bernie” sounds like “burn,” blah blah symbolism) with him. There could be a lot of fun sprites with that, similar to Iyesa Nosa
There’s still some lowkey tutorial aspects, with the jury system (Kazuma would already know all of this, but Majimena is basically gonna "mansplain" everything to him. The PC gets the option to either “zone out” or “listen intently.” If the PC chooses to “zone out,” then Majimena’s dialogue automatically goes by so quickly that they can only make out a few words, just like how Wendy Oldbag from AA rambles.)
Gina is still a detective bc I luv her <3
She probs says petty shit to Kazuma like “I liked Oddo better, can we have him back?”
Kazuma wins
Asher Wright seems very (significantly more than appropriate, at least) distraught by this but recovers his dignity quickly
Kazuma gets the telegram from Susato that Ryunosuke is in grave health
He pictures Ryunosuke on a black screen, identical to how Ryunosuke remembered him during DGS1 when he believed Kazuma was dead
I’d go apeshit for there to be a seperate theme for their love. I’d call it “Dual Swords, Bonded by Battle” or some cheesy shit like that, and it would play here. I’d imagine it sounds somewhat similar to “Avatar’s Love” from ATLA but in the orchestra style of DGS
Kazuma rushes to get a ticket to visit Japan along with Iris and Herlock, though he probably leaves a note for Barok at his office
Barok and Gina are actually already in his office because Gina is giving Barok a report about the trial. Kazuma informs them anyways, and Gina is shocked before tearing up a little, saluting Kazuma, and saying “I’ll ’old down the fort for ya ‘ere!” Barok is just silent, with that closed eyes and crossed arms sprite, until he tells Kazuma smth like, “pray forgive the discourtesy of my silence after such a shocking statement. I will be awaiting your return, Prosecutor Asogi.”
Kazuma is still half-distracted by the prospect of Ryunosuke dying, so he accidentally leaves the note on the ground when he leaves in his rush to catch his ship. (This note, unbeknownst to Kazuma but hinted at to the audience, was also seen by Asher Wright)
Case: Japan
Kazuma and Majimena vs. Ryunosuke and Susato,
POV Ryunosuke
When Kazuma, Sholmes, and Iris finally arrive in Japan after a month-long steamship ride, it turns out Ryunosuke is well on his way to health
When Kazuma and Ryunosuke reunite, “Dual Swords, Bonded by Battle” plays, abruptly interrupted by Sholmes who (despite Iris and Susato knowing what’s happening and pulling him back) ruins the mood
The 221B gang somehow meet “Majimena’s” parents as well as “Hinko,” but these are just cameos to set up the next two cases
It turns out the defendant was about to be a scapegoat for the Big Bad yakuza boss (named Warui Nyusu) before Ryunosuke got him declared not guilty
It’s strongly suggested that Ryunosuke has been investigating Nyusu’s gang for the last few years, and that he had hoped that this trial would lead him closer to ending his gang once and for all
Maybe Kazuma and Ryunosuke confess to each other (after realizing in this case how much they missed each other), if I need to stick it in my “canon” somewhere lol.
“Dual Swords, Bonded by Battle” plays here
Case: Japan
It turns out there was a murder of the Houji father. “Majimena” is the accused of being the murderer with Prosecutor Ojonoteki as the prosecutor, and Warui Nyusu was accused of being an accomplice (but notably not accused of being the yakuza boss) with Asher Wright as the defense attorney. This trial will take place on the same day.
Dance of Deduction: Ryunosuke, Herlock, “Majimena,” and “Hinko” are the only ones present for whatever reason. Ryunosuke and Herlock discover that Majimena is actually Hinko the maidservant of the real Majimena as well as his half-sister, who performed a “Prince and the Pauper” type deal to protect Hinko from Prosecutor Ojonoteki.
Herlock and Ryunosuke promise Majimena and Hinko that they’ll keep their secret, but Ryunosuke realizes that he’s going to have to go to a really important law meeting to convince the higher ups that women should be allowed in court other than being the defendant or the witness so that Hinko won’t be jailed for that crime if she’s not also jailed for being a murderer.
“Ryutaro” (and maybe Mikotoba as a co-counsel?) vs. Prosecutor Ojonoteki
Trial:
The first thing that Prosecutor Ojonoteki does is reveal that “Majimena” is actually Hinko, and that “Hinko” is actually Majimena, but she has some sort of “evidence” that says that both of them are guilty. Susato realizes that this switch must be why Ryunosuke told her to defend “Majimena” AKA Hinko.
Susato actually ALMOST proves that “Majimena” is innocent BUT by the end of the trial, it’s revealed that “Ryutaro,” and Prosecutor Ojonoteki are all women, to which they all IMMEDIATELY get arrested for contempt of court or some shit before she can fully prove it
It ends with a black screen. Susato simply thinks, “I hope, Naruhodo-san, that you will save us…”
Case: Japan
The same day…
Kazuma vs. Asher Wright
Trial: Kazuma not only proves that the yakuza boss is the accomplice but also the yakuza boss and the mastermind of other crimes (similar to the Reaper I guess lol). He additionally proves that both Asher Wright and Prosecutor Ojonoteki were helping some yakuza dude cover up a bunch of murders.
At Kazuma’s 11th hour, when all seems dark, Herlock Sholmes and Iris barge in with new evidence against Asher Wright specifically (using an English to Japanese translator that they invented together), but it doesn’t prove either of the other two guilty (or even “proves” them innocent).
However, Ryunosuke —along with Susato?— barges in soon after that and declares that he will take over the defense so that Asher Wright can testify.
It’s now a Ryunosuke vs. Kazuma trial again, with the POV being Ryunosuke
There’s been a building tension between Ryunosuke and Kazuma because, while this time, they both want to uncover the truth, they have different ideas on what should happen after. Kazuma obviously hates Warui Nyusu the yakuza boss and thinks he should go to jail, but maybe Prosecutor Ojonoteki and Asher Wright remind him of his own father and the other people involved in the Professor case (and also maybe Bernard Wright reminds him of himself?) and therefore want to protect them. Ryunosuke keeps (gently?) reminding him that his emotions are getting the better of him again
Asher Wright testifies, and Kazuma and Ryunosuke basically double down on proving him, his wife, and the yakuza boss are all guilty
It’s revealed that Warui Nyusu was the one who poisoned Ryunosuke at the end of the first case because he didn’t like that he was investigating his gang
After the new Japanese judge declares the yakuza boss + Asher Wright + Prosecutor Ojonoteki are guilty (and Hinko innocent of murder, though she’s gonna go to jail for half a year on charge of fraudulence. It’s a short sentence because of the circumstances), he is like “Okay but like what are we gonna do with Bernard Wright? Give him away to a local orphanage since he’s half Japanese? Or send him back to England?” Ryunosuke and Kazuma shoot each other a troubled look before Ryunosuke offers to be his adoptive parent.
“Dual Swords, Bonded by Battle” briefly plays here as the judge and Kazuma are shocked by what Ryunosuke says. The judge is like “but ur not even married?? What would ur future wife think?” to which Ryunoske just does that smug little sprite of his where he leans on Karuma, looks at Kazuma, and says “I’m sure any future partner would understand the circumstances.” And Kazuma gets over his shock, smiling back, and he says something like, “Indeed, Ryunosuke Naruhodo. I’m sure your partner would understand.” The judge is just confused but shrugs it off
Bernie, now knowing that both of his parents are criminals and/or murderers, tells Ryunosuke and Kazuma that he’d be honored to be their son. But he doesn’t wanna change his last name because the way he sees it: his great actions in the future are going to redeem the Wright line.
“Dual Swords, Bonded by Battle” probably plays since it’s so sentimental and connected to Ryunosuke and Kazuma, who are now Bernie’s parents
Ryunosuke and Kazuma r like “well that went better than we expected” so they ask Iris if she wants to know who her biological dad is and actually tell her because oh my god why didn't they wrap that up in dgs2
We wrap up with Iris, Kazuma, Mikotoba, etc being surprised abt Hinko and Makimena. The two half-siblings thank the 221B+ team for defending them. When asked what they’re going to do after everything that happened, Hinko says that she wants to continue her studies in London because she actually does like law—if Kazuma will still have her as his judicial assistant after she serves her half year sentence in jail—and Majimena says that he wants get an education in engineering or smth. Obvi, Kazuma says that Hinko can join him, and that in fact, he’ll stay in Japan for that half a year waiting for her while helping Bernie settle in with Naruhodo.
Iris and Herlock have to go back home though, so the ending cutscene is Kazuma, Bernie, Ryunosuke, Susato, Mikotoba, Hinko (escorted by Japanese guards), and Majimena waving goodbye to them while they leave on a steamboat.
He cocked his gun, as he heard something inside his tiny home. His lips twist into a frown. But he heard that seductive voice. That frown turn into a sneer.Turning to face the intruder. His light blue eyes narrow at the intruder. Aiming his gun at the woman in red.
