Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the silly colourful horror that DHMIS has, but omfg the Kickstarter DVD with the uncanny realistic horror? Absolutely eldritch.
Same goes for The Log Is In The Bin. Haha funny red men playing with a log in a bin, but this guy is in a violent 'reality', being forced to die over and over again, every day, whilst also being the only human-like and self aware character out of his friend group, whilst also possibly dealing with self image insecurities.
I might do a character analysis of Red Guy soon, episode by episode because I'm autistic like that 🥹🫶‼️
WE ACTUALLY GOT AN UPDATE AND I'M FREAKING OUT
Headcanons: The Kidnapping + The Money Man
Previously: BIrd Guy, Yellow and Roy, Red Guy, Sketchbook, Tony, Shrignold and the Love Cult, and Colin.
Money Man:
Very little is known about the Money Man, as he keeps himself secluded so no one realizes he’s kidnapping people.
The trio are not the first people the Money Man has kidnapped, nor the last.
Lives in a run-down trailer out in the woods.
Brings the people he’s kidnapped to a different location each time to help avoid getting caught. He burns each building after he’s done, which is why he has the gasoline.
Always requests that the money is left in a location a mile or two away from his current location so no one sees his face.
Suffered from some major brain damage to his motor functions a while back, hence his sporadic movements and inability to speak coherently.
Major anger problems. Has been known to severely injure his hostages out of pure irritation.
Will use just about any weapon, but has a fondness for hammers and other things used for bludgeoning.
Is actually not very good at cutting off body parts, partially due to his trouble controlling his movements. Ended up more or less pulling Bird’s eye out after failing to cut the stem behind it, and made several cuts in Yellow’s finger before finally managing to take it off.
Would have killed off the trio whether the money was raised or not, as he would have no use for them after the money’s obtained and he doesn’t want to leave witnesses behind.
The Kidnapping:
The trio were held in the basement of an abandoned flat.
Bird and Red were targeted because they had family that would pay the ransom. Yellow was only taken because there was no easy way to leave him behind.
The Money man staked out their house a few days before kidnapping them to wait for a good opportunity.
Waited until the trio were in separate parts of the house, then went through and knocked them out one at a time.
They were all knocked out via a single sharp hit on the back of the head.
Red tried reasoning with him multiple times to let them go, to no avail.
They got some plain bread for lunch. Bird didn’t get to have any because his beak was still taped shut.
The Money Man went backwards down the line when taking body parts (IE Bird --> Red --> Yellow).
The bag was put over Yellow’s head when he freaked out after Bird and Red were attacked.
Their wounds were not bandaged/cleaned at any point
They don’t remember how or when they escaped.
I’m probably just reading way, way too much into this, but I find it slightly disconcerting that the symbol for DHMIS 5 is currently eyes. I mean, DHMIS 5 is supposed to be the Birdman episode, and he’s managed to lose an eyeball not once, but twice so far:
NO BUT GUYS
DUCK TAPE
IT WAS A PUN THE WHOLE TIME
So I was going through my archives because of reasons, and I noticed that the timestamp on some of the Kickstarter videos was different. The first couple of videos had 19.06.55 on them, but some of them had a stamp of 19.06.14 (which would have been the current year then). The ‘14 videos all featured empty rooms, showing the puppets had already been offed at that point. To put it another way:
The footage from 1955 showed the trio still alive.
The footage from 2014, from the present day, shows that the trio are dead.
I’ve already speculated on the trio being dead and DHMIS showing the afterlife before, but things suddenly make much more sense if you assume that they were kidnapped and killed on 6/19/55:
There are missing posters in both DHMIS 3 and 4, despite the trio seemingly fine and back in their homes. If they’re dead, that would mean the posters are still up because they never did return home.
When the puppets start rotting in 2, they lose the exact same body parts as the Money Man took during the removed Help #3 video (Bird’s eye, Yellow’s finger, and a chunk of Red’s scalp/his ear).
The Kickstarter video starts with the trio unconscious and in chairs. Each DHMIS video has started with the trio sitting in silence.
The individualized lessons are also in the same order as the puppets are sitting (Yellow->Red->Bird).
On top of that, there are direct parallels in 2 and 3 to the Kickstarter, implying each lesson may tie back into the kidnapping:
The Money Man yells at Red when he does something he doesn’t like, much like Tony does.
Red’s line from the end of the video directly parallels Tony’s in 2 (”We’re running out of time”/”But eventually everyone runs out of time“).
Tony says that the past is far behind them while pointing to a picture dated ‘55, then says the future doesn’t exist. This could be hinting that the trio haven’t been alive for a long, long time, and that they have no future because they’re already dead.
There is a face drawn on a piece of paper in the Kickstarter, and that’s more or less what Sketchbook is.
The Money Man puts the body parts into an envelope on a bright pink background, the same one used during the creativity explosion in 1 (which also involved organs).
I was rewatching HELP #2 and I could swear that’s the shadow of a My LIttle Pony on the wall I mean
tell me you don’t see it
