Lunch with friends! #diabeticink
Diabetic ink shared with me this month from Scott Walsh:
“After 30 years, I recently lost my Medic Alert bracelet. Hope my diabetic "ink" is a worthy replacement. 😀”
New one I’m loving, shared with me recently! From Erin Huxford: “Diagnosed at 12, now 29. On a pump the whole time and now a CGM the last 4 years. I didn’t accept it for a very long time and just did the minimum. This is another step in me owning my disease and taking responsibility of it. The more I’ve talked about how it makes me feel, the ups and downs, the moods.. the more people start to understand my daily battle.” This is what diabetic ink is all about, my friends. . . #diabeticink #diabetestattoo #diabetesawareness #t1d #t1dlookslikeme #type1diabetes https://www.instagram.com/p/Br4KzMrgseP/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1jvcp2ax03erb
Olivia shared her diabetes tattoo with me. This tattoo is exactly 1 year old today.
“I’m 21 from Huntington Beach and I got my tattoo exactly a year ago on November 14, 2017. My diaversary was last month and I’ve had type 1 for 16 years. I love my tattoo because it reminds me that I am a fighter and it reminds others that Type 1 Diabetes is a disease that people struggle with daily. It’s also a good medical ID Incase of an emergency. I designed my tattoo myself and I love it so much!💙”
Nathan Polak is a tattoo artist in the UK. Check out this awesome diabetes tattoo he put on one of his clients!

Diabetes isn’t what most people think it is. It’s a chronic illness that can happen to anybody who is genetically predisposed. In some cases it is triggered by something. In others, it just happens. It can be very well managed, but is not curable. I am not just talking my type 1 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is stigmatized and misinformation is perpetuated by our culture of shaming and blaming people in their misfortune.
These are my 3 diabetes tattoos which I proudly wear as a reminder to me that I am stronger than diabetes. I’m a survivor and plan to keep on surviving.
With #DiabetesAwarenessMonth in full swing, I’d like to address THE most frequently asked question I receive constantly... Not one single person in the world has been tattooed with ink that changes color with changing blood sugar. It doesn’t actually exist outside of a research lab someplace. I don’t make it. Nobody makes it. Nobody plans to make it. Last I heard, the researchers at MIT don’t plan to develop it for commercial use. Diabetes tattoos are fun, meaningful, artistic, liberating, empowering, beautiful and awesome. If you get one, PLEASE send it to me so I can share. #DiabeticInk was created as a place to tell the stories of PWD and to be an archive of ideas for others who want a diabetes tattoo. . . TL;DR - color changing tattoo ink is not real. Get a normal tattoo. 🤙🏻 . . #diabetes #diabetestattoo #diabetic #diabetictattoo #type1diabetes #type1diabetic #t1d #t1diabetes #t1dlookslikeme https://www.instagram.com/p/Bpzja-MAEk2/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=bmwedbokgxw7
