The gig had been a success. People laughed so much, it was as if Iris was getting better and better with each act. Of course, there were people who didn’t like her act, mostly men who claimed that she wasn’t funny and that her role was in the kitchen. but Iris always had a clever comeback: whether she had an elf, that she was a terrible cook, that she was a pureblood and purebloods weren’t meant to be in the kitchen, and so on. To make an ommelette one had to break some eggs, right, and she didn’t mind pissing off men whose masculinity was as fragile as her porcelain tea set.
However, this night, in spite of the wonderful response of the audience, something seemed off. As if the atmosphere was slightly heavier. Once getting off stage, Iris sat at the bar and asked for her regular drink. It was then when someone from the staff came with a letter for her, they didn’t know who left it, but Iris assumed it would be signed by someone. Except that it wasn’t. There wasn’t much but a simple phrase written:
Traitors get what they deserve.
Her eyes widened in shock and her skin paled abruptly as an overwhelming feeling of dread took hold of her. She immediately looked around, but there was nothing suspicious. Iris clenched the parchment in her hand, making it a tight ball and she stood up. Her mind was racing and all she could think of was her daughter. Too consumed by fear, she turned on her heels to leave the venue, but she didn’t see the person coming her way and bumped into them, their drinks spilling over the two of them as they collided.
“FUCK!” she exclaimed somewhat hysterically.
