hi! i was curious to know what the history is between stim blogs and blocking nsfw blogs. is it that much of an occurrence? and why?

I don’t know honestly. We made this blog in September, so we haven’t really been around that long to tell you the history of it, although this blog is run entirely by minors and we’re uncomfortable with the concept of nsfw blogs reblogging our content so...

I totally get what you mean, Mags. White saviour complexes run rampant - I know a lot of white people who talk about adopting in that 'colorblind' way and it's a Serious Issue that needs to be talked about. My problem is this:

The original post doesn't specify. It doesn't explain that the problem relates directly to colour-blindness and the disregard for cultural differences. It oversimplifies. Anyone unfamiliar with those issues will look at the original post and just see 'White people should only adopt white people'.

The OP also has a page on her blog talking about this specific post and, again, oversimplifies. She relates statistics from 2013 from the adoption bureau, which I applaud - always source! But the problem is that the stats from that bureau are inherently flawed. If you do the math of adopted white kids vs adopted non-white kids (black + hispanic + asian + other) it reads that white babies don't get adopted as often as colored babies. Which is, I think, correct. But that's ignoring the demographic breakdown of how many babies are in care in each racial group; ie:

In 2000 (and 2009), 40% of the children in foster care were white. The remaining 60% were children of color - Black, Hispanic, Indian, Asian/Pacific Islander, mixed race. *

Ergo, it makes sense that if the majority of the children that are up for adoption are not white, the majority of children who actually are adopted won't be white. It's the same reason stats are typically done per capita. But the OP doesn't mention this, and the stats page I'm assuming she got this from (it's where I saw it) ignores it as well.

When you're posting about a topic as serious and prevalent as inter-racial adoptions, you can't simplify. You can't gloss over. It's important to say 'White people who adopt non-white kids and then refuse to give them the opportunity to learn about their cultures, or learn how to interact with their childs culture are shitheads'.

Instead of posting over-simplistic posts like the original one, make posts explaining how white people can adopt non-white kids (and vice versa). Teach about finding a group of black mom's to teach you how to style natural hair (which is a task that would terrify me - I heard war stories from black girls in high school). Teach about introducing your Aboriginal child to an elder from their community. Teach about interacting with the local Korean community so you don't treat your kid as just 'Asian'.

Teach about making sure your child has a role model from their racial background who can sympathise with the racism and discrimination and bullying they're going to face.  The shit you, as a white person, will never understand.

And what about bi-racial babies? If we're only supposed to adopt in our own race** who gets to adopt the bi-racial babies? Only couples made up of two bi-racial individuals? What about couples where one person is black and the other is white?

My issue isn't with the sentiment of the original post, it's with the delivery. It never ends well when we over-simplify decidedly not simple topics.

*Please note that these stats come from a book I used for a school assignment so I can't post a link to them. If I find them online I'll update.

**Again, this is looking at the original post as though I was someone unfamiliar with the complexities and risks of inter-racial adoptions. I, as someone familiar with those issues, realize that the OP did not mean only adopt your own race.

 Questions: 1. Who was your idol growing up? Oh I honestly have no idea. You know, there was always someone I’d look up to but they’d always end up disappointing me. 

2. Is there a pivotal moment in your life that you think should’ve gone differently? Why? Well I kind of like where I am now. I love my job. I’m not nearly as stressed as I used to be while I was at school. I like the people I choose to hang out with. The others can just fuck off.

8. What inspired your username? I’m like the worse person to think of usernames because I never know what to use and the good stuff is always taken. My friend used to have her thing spelled out all in one word and I didn’t like that there was no space (my sister was bugging me about creating a blog too and hers has dashes so). I’ve never changed the username and I probably never will. This username is what I got the Instagram and everything else from. 

9. What is something you wish you could say to someone right now but can’t or are afraid to? Well there’s a few things I’d like to say but I don’t think it would change anything so what the hell?
