I think the idea behind the diamond requirement is that you use diamonds that are of a quality equal to the specified gold amount, that is to say, if a reasonable jeweler got that diamond and sold it, it’d be worth that. It’s not like you can go to a jeweler and ask “can I buy your shittiest diamond for 300 gp?” and have it work. So ultra shitty diamonds that would probably sell for a copper or silver would be impractical, cause you’d need BUCKETS of them to compensante.
True, but when you can manufacture your own diamonds, why not? Diamonds are worth more than their beauty, so while they look shitty, ones you make on your own are equally expensive for their strength and practical use. There’s a reason companies and factories make them on their own as opposed to using an industrial diamond dealer
And furthermore, out of all the places to find a gem, a jeweler who uses them for pieces will definitely mark up diamonds more than someone selling them for the specific purpose of resurrections. So if you can make a diamond worth the exact amount you need it to be worth, why go someplace that’ll mark it up?
