Hollywood House (1949) with Dick Wesson and Jim Backus
I’ve watched “Calamity Jane” and it’s lovely… but so sexist! Well, anyway it’s better than “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” – here at least nobody was kidnapped, but all that “female thinking” and “woman touch” and the idea that they didn’t think of her as a girl until she took on a dress isn’t good either. But their attitude to her almost as to an equal one (well, almost – is an important word) was quite nice. The songs – not from the stage but just during the action – were good. The whole atmosphere of a tiny western town was also lovely. Oh, how could I forget – racism. Do you want to talk about how was Native Americans portrayed in that movie? Me neither.
