Three's a pattern! So naturally, Dick at Bones Gym had to get the third spot. Dick has been an acrobatics teacher for children under three different writers (Wolfman, Tomasi and Seeley)*. Wolfman and Tomasi both showed Dick working with children at Bones.

*The St. Hadrian's gig does not count cause it's a college.

Wolfman calls it Bones Gym, while Tomasi made Bones Fun and Fitness Center out of it. Fitting because Dick has a better time in his run. Dick teaches the kids how to fly with plenty of encouragements, but, as usual, it's equally important for them to learn how to fall.

Dick Grayson Being Good With Children Since 1940 (1/?) The New Titans (1988) #71

This is one of the greatest scenes that show how Dick interacts with children and why they trust him. He tells good stories, and he tells them by showing he emphasizes with more than simply his own life story. Dick is, especially in this part of his life, all about his most important relationships.

It's an examination of Kory's influence on Dick but also how his parents and Bruce guided him. Dick is not only reassuring the girl but also the mother. Also, not Dick holding a kid and thinking she'll turn out like Tim. I wish. Dick should be having a brigade of sidekicks he can't get rid off and you'll see that for yourself in this blog series.

Dick Grayson Being Good With Children Since 1940 (5/?) Grayson #5

What else could come after "In Arms" except Dick's more extreme equivalent? Grayson #5 is a pure odyssey of the heart. Stranded in the desert after a helicopter crash, Dick swears to save the baby girl that was just born on their flight all while saving himself and the people around him.

As Dick cares for her survival, he does not allow any doubts to enter his mind, not even when Midnighter tries to invite them. Helena shuts him up effectively for a while.

Dick and Helena work together even as Dick is forced to leave her behind, showing their dedication to preserving life, even though that was part of their conflict before.

The retelling of the comic story "Robin Dies At Dawn" commences as Dick is the last one standing and does not give up on carrying the baby to safety.

Through survival, Dick brings her to people who will love and cherish her. Not only saving her from a cruel heat death but also from Spyral's experimentations.

As the carrier of paragons heart, the baby has superpowers (likely Diana's), so yes, another child cared for, another contender for the army of sidekick's Dick should have. 😌

Dick Grayson Being Good With Children Since 1940 (4/?) Batman: Gotham Adventures #26

Aptly named "In Arms", this story is all about Bruce having to save a little baby and taking care of the boy until he can be reunited with his parents. While Alfred guides Bruce through the process of changing diapers...

... the only other person directly engaging with the baby is Dick. Dick naturally gravitates toward the baby and entertaints him without stopping to engage with the case. It's a sweet moment that's part of an overall characterization pattern.

Batman and Robin save a mother and her child from Scarecrow during the villains debute. Even as a child himself, Dick can simply not reists the baby's charm!

Dick Grayson Being Good With Children Since 1940 (16/?) The Titans (1999) #27-#41

A group of superpowered kids escapes from the DEO without the Titans' knowledge and decides to seek refuge in Titans Tower. Dick gets closer to the kids over the course of the 10-issue arc.

Once the Titans learn - the hard way - that the DEO wants the kids back, Dick is quick to jump to their defense and make an enemy out of the government agency.

But things aren't that easy and there is more to the DEO Orphans than it seems. When Titans Tower is destroyed - because of course it is - the orphans are forced back to the DEO. Nikki isn't having a good time there but the Titans try their best. While Dick and Donna reaching out to her doesn't help, Dick trusts Lilith to check up on Nikki's psychic powers later.

Dick Grayson Being Good With Children Since 1940 (8/?) Detective Comics (1937) #721

The storyline "Cataclysm" sees an earthquake destroy Gotham and parts of Blüdhaven. After making sure his own citizens are alright, Dick joins Bruce in Gotham, which is doing much worse. As Bruce and Helena are caught in conflict with each other, Dick learns that a family is trapped under the rubble and immediately seeks to help them with the support of Bruce and Helena.

Their rescue happens largely off panel before paramedics take them to the hospital. Bruce and Dick continue to search through the area and rescue another child.

From one of the sweetest Christmas stories Dick has ever gotten. Dick meets Clarissa and her young daughter, Mazey, while investigating crimes against a Gotham tech company. After learning that the layoffs made mother and daughter face homelessness, he involves Bruce so the whole encampment can have a save space to live in.
