I marked my essence on Eternity’s wall - e.n
on the elusiveness of identity
I marked my essence on Eternity’s wall,
Strained to trace it, for I saw I had written:
But could not decipher my intelligible Scrawl.
Lining the floor were Identities as objects
Above mourning flowers, poems, an apple bitten,
I marked my essence on Eternity’s wall.
With Reason’s magnifying glass, and formulas complex,
I examined my letters like a lover smitten,
But could not decipher my intelligible Scrawl.
Am I a walking Contradiction? I vex–
With a Hand befitting no mitten,
I marked my essence on Eternity’s wall.
A hint! Escaped – cruelly does it me perplex
I traced again, ungloved Hand now frostbitten
But could not decipher my intelligible Scrawl.
I gaze in the mirror, but no light reflects
Blinded! I am as good as unwritten.
I marked my essence on Eternity’s wall,
But could not decipher my intelligible Scrawl.
