hi! I've got my interview in three weeks, and it's face to face at uni. Just wondering what questions you were asked, just to get a general idea and be a little prepared! Thanks, hope you're enjoying your program!
Hey, congrats on getting an interview!
My interview was a lot nicer than I thought it would be. I was super nervous but my interviewer was so genuinely lovely and went out of his way to make me feel comfortable.
He began by asking if I had all my paperwork.- Which I did. Good start.
He asked for a bit of info about me - what I was studying, how I enjoyed uni, how I was going with my classes, what my hobbies were. - I made a point of mentioning my love of writing/story-telling.
He asked why I wanted to do the program. I was honest about my love for Disney, spoke about how I’d grown up with the movies, why they were inspiring, etc. - I told him about my desire to travel and experience different cultures.
He asked what my two top role choices were.- I said merchandise and character attendant.
He asked why I wanted to work in those roles and what previous experience I had that made me suited for those roles. - I mentioned my job history (McDonalds, a Jewellers and a Graphic Design Company) and spoke about how they all provided me with customer experience, point of sale and cash handling skills, conflict resolution skills and sales skills. To tie it directly back to my desired roles I spoke about how McDonald’s had taught me how to cope in a fast paced environment, how working at a jewellers meant I was used to handling valuable items and understood the importance of following strict security procedures, how working in graphic design had helped my creative problem solving skills. - I said that I wanted to work merchandise because I enjoyed my previous retail work, and that I wanted to be a character attendant because the characters had always been my favourite parts of the parks and that role meant that I could be a part of the magic and help bring guests into their stories.
At this point I could tell the interview was going pretty well, and then he asked me this: “You’re attending Winnie the Pooh and Tigger. It’s the end of the set, and you have to get the characters off stage. They’ll be gone for an hour. You’ve closed the line, and a little boy comes up to you with his mum and dad, desperate to see Pooh and Tigger. How do you explain that they have to leave without upsetting the boy?”- I said that I would get down on the little boys level and explain to him that Pooh and Tigger had to head back to the Hundred Acre Woods because Pooh’s tummy was grumbly for some hunny, and that Pooh Bear got a bit silly when he didn’t get his tummy. I’d explain that it would be so much more fun to come back and meet them once Pooh had his hunny and Tigger had done some bouncing, and that this way the little boy had time to ride the ride (or eat, or whatever) before they got back. I would make sure that was okay with him, give him a sticker, and then stand up to tell the parents what time to come back.
I was pretty proud of that answer, especially when he followed it up with, “One more question.” But then he asked, “What are you most proud of? What’s your proudest moment?” Which is a pretty damn hard question and the only one I didn’t have an answer prepared for.- I spoke about my friendship with my little sister, how we didn’t used to get a long but now she’s my best friend, and how proud I was that we’d been able to become so close. Cheesy, corny, but it mustn’t have been too bad.
And that was it for the interview! We shook hands, he measured my height just in case I fit something for a fur character, and then I left. I hope that long winded answer is helpful in some way!If you could let me know how your interview goes and what questions you get asked I’d really appreciate it, so we can build a little collection of typical interview experiences.Good luck, I’m sure you’ll do wonderfully!
