zeno probably annoyed him at some point cause now whenever someone calls his phone, instead of his typical ringtone, zeno's phone now blasts out aqua's iconic barbie girl.

He almost crushes the phone in his hand right there and then as his ears are assaulted by... sound, stopping himself from doing so when he remembers these phones are not easily replaced. Having his ears blasted to hell and back about some 'barbie girl' is not worth the headache he'd get trying to explain to his superiors why he'd destroyed his phone and he cancels the call, cursing under his breath all the while. What kind of fucking song was that? Life in plastic? It's fantastic? No it fucking wasn't. Who made this song? And why was it on his phone? He never put that on and again he's forced to cancel the incoming call meaning it was probably important as he checks his settings, trying to find sound so he can set it to vibrate only for the meantime. Relief hits him when the caller rings a third time, the phone blissfully silent except for when he does answer only to get his hearing assaulted by the voice on the other end of the line. It was still early and already he had a splitting headache meaning this was going to be a loooong day. Just wait until he got hold of who'd messed with his phone. They'd wish a thousand times they didn't do what they just did.

the part that no one disclosed was that after dulvey, louisiana, the connections were still out there. they were still causing issues for the masses that were those who were protecting innocent civilians from the threats of bioterrorism. specifically, the dso.

he'd found a few leads, after having done research for the past 3 months to try and pin down a few agents from the connections, but what he doesn't expect is steve. not that he knows what steve looks like, or knows him on a first hand account, but it was interesting to point a gun directly at someone and wonder if he has the wrong person.

"now, we could make this extremely easy, or extremely hard, and i really am not feeling like doing anything the hard way," he cuts to the other, eyes narrowing as he watches steve's motions. he'd hoped to have caught him off guard.

It's said very bluntly, and with every bit of awareness that Steve won't have a clue who that is. It's not said for Steve's benefit.

"Your 'inconspicuous' friends should get out of this place. They will gain nothing here - especially since all of the interesting parts happened a long time ago."

Call it intuiton, call it an uncanny ability to see past bullshit. He knows there's a shady group that's been poking their noses around here - even if he doesn't know their name or exact affiliation.

“ You say that... like I have a choice in this shit, ” Cass groans. she's getting better at speaking, at least, but it still takes effort to do so. after all, the dead don't speak, don't cry, don't... anything, really. why the Connections want to throw her out in the field this soon after infecting her with the Mold and bringing her back to life is a mystery, but an incredulous laugh escapes her lips at Steve's words. maybe he's meant to be her newest handler; the corporation hadn't liked it when she'd written, in the neatest handwriting she could muster, 'I WILL GUT YOU WITH MY TEETH TO BE FREE' to the last handler she'd had. “ 'M not... human, either. Maybe not animal, but not alive. ”

Cass doesn't even feel like herself. she doesn't feel much of anything, actually, because her heart doesn't pump blood anymore. she is, for all intents and purposes, a living corpse. and not in the poetic sense. she has to do menial tasks so rigor mortis doesn't set in, her body is covered in spores, her eyes are black and filled with cataracts, and everywhere she goes Mold follows. she's certainly not worth anyone's time, as far as she's concerned, and Cass bares her teeth at Steve without hesitation as he dares to step closer to her.

“ They're not gonna be nice to me either way. ” and it's true. a former member of STARS and one of the B.S.A.A.'s key players, Cass doubts that the Connections would ever want anything with her. they're going to make her into a weapon, whether she likes it or not. the least she can do is provide a little resistance. even before all this shit, she knew how to bite and scratch and claw and kill. it just so happens that she's better at it now. she's also more controlled, though. she can't go so much as five minutes without being under someone's watchful eye, even if they claim that to be untrue. “ So stop pretending. Tired of that crap. Tell me what you want. ”

"what the hell, sure." nadia's had her fair share of guys acting all macho once hit the field, but this one comes with recommendations from redfield, and she knows better than to argue against that old grump. gun retrieved from its holster, nadia aims at the heads of the infected hoarde coming towards them and shoots one by one - it's a practiced routine, by now it's not even as anxiety inducing as the first few times she was dropped on site and told to wipe down anything infected from an high vantage point.

"you sure you can handle that, right?" just the slightest hint of worry - she's seen enough comrades fall at the ends pf bioterrorism, and her unfortunate parter of the moment @diedbelow looks way too young and scrappy to end up in a bodybag just yet. "not that i don't trust you," one more shot, body dropping on the ground. "i'm gonna round that corner, get up there to cover you." just in case.

"They hate you so much, brat." Zeno says over his shoulder at he looks at the other man. Where the hell did Steve get off on calling him annoying? It wasn't like Zeno was the one pretending to listen in meetings when he really flicking paper balls and clips at others, trying to get them to lose their composure so they'd get into trouble. It kind of annoyed Zeno too but there was some fondness for the other man, irritating though he could be at times. Yeah, when Steve least expected it, he'd... reach other and tug that braid of his, ding-donging it like a doorbell.

"don't you get tired of being annoying?" flicks a tiny paperball towards him.

It looks like Zeno's barely moved in his seat but he tilts his head absurdly fast to the side, dodging the incoming pellet of paper Steve flicks his way. Bullets can't touch a tyrant of his class and neither can this pathetic projectile to which Zeno bears his teeth in a smirk he's sure will irritate the other man further. "About as tired as you must get flicking those things. I'm sitting right here and still you can't land a hit." He mutters under his breath as so not to interrupt the meeting. At least Steve was providing some entertainment through the current speaker's dull chatter of targets and other nonsense neither of them really care about but have to sit and endure as representatives. One paper ball lands on the table before him, Zeno's eyes darting to it briefly before he flicks it right back, aiming for the end of Steve's nose. Revenge for daring to call him annoying when he was the one starting shit.
