I made an Encanto OC!

After thinking about it for months, and with help and support from amazing people these last weeks, I finally did it...

So I present to you Diego Orozco (who I'll call Diegoo for differentiation purposes)

Its still work in progress but more art and info about him under the cut!

Diegoo was born in the Encanto five years after its creation (which means he's 5 years younger than the triplets). His family has a farm, they raise chickens, goats, sheep and cows. Their main production is milk and cheese, but they also sell eggs and wool.

He works at the farm since he was a child, and gets really close to the animals. His father wanted him to learn how to maintain the farm and was really strict about it. His mother on the other hand was sweet and warm, she taught him how to weave, knit, music and never let him abandon school.

As a teen he was a troublemaker, he likes attention and has lots of energy, he wasn't a bully but can be rude when trying to play, he's rough and has trouble reading the room. He's bad at respecting limits, basically, but wants people to like him. Diegoo is a sensitive guy, but doesn't like to show his emotions, he feels like a burden when talking about how he feels.

Of the triplets, he's closer to Julieta, but not super close because she's always busy and had to grow up too fast. He's scared of Pepa and feels protective over Bruno because he's Julieta's baby brother (yes, he's still older but Diegoo doesn't care)

Once he's an adult he takes whole control of the farm, his father being too old to do it by himself. They sell the cows except one he's particularly close to, a jersey cow named Moonica.

He loves animals, refuses to sell meat. He likes children and loves having them around the farm. He obviously loves all the Madrigal kids just because they're kids, but plays favorites with Antonio and Camilo. (Idk how Pepa would feel about this)

His hair is black, curly and messy. His eyes look tired. He wears open overalls, tied around his waist when it's hot. His wool bracelet is really important to him, it's a gift from his mother.

Other facts: he has a heartbreaker reputation because some families tried to marry their daughters to him, he accepted the gifts and the dates but never formalized. Truth is, he's gay. He's scared of fire. His favorite color is dark blue and several parts of his farm are painted dark blue. He plays the guitar. Likes singing, bad singer.

He rescues an abandoned puppy which turns out to be a shepherd, he keeps him and calls him Lulo. They are always together, Lulo is a precious dog, playful and protective, kind with other animals and people. His collar is made of wool by Diego with the same techniques he learnt from his mother.

His name was pretty random, tbh, but I really liked Diego Orozco because it references two important Mexican artists (Diego Rivera and Jose Clemente Orozco) which is funny because he's not an artist nor Mexican, but I am, okay? Lulo is the name of a fruit and I have a tendency of naming pets after food. Moonica is just cute.

In modern AUs he's either a Vet or Vet student.

💔 - what could their partner do that would absolutely break their heart?

Diego is very insecure on how he's perceived and has a hard time opening and sharing his feelings. If he does he really trusts that person. I think anything that would break that trust would be heartbreaking for him, like, idk, making fun of him or his feelings, telling him he's being too much to handle, telling him he's too sensitive...

💓 - what gets their heart racing?

Romantically, eye contact and praises.

Not romantically, anything that looks like a fun adventure

🌈 - what advice would they give to their younger self?

That he doesn't have to meet anyone's expectations to be loved and he's perfectly capable of doing what he wants.

And be careful when driving.

❇ - what is their most priced possession? What do they value?

I don't think he's very materialistic and he believes a lot in saying thanks and letting go (with objects, not people), so this is a hard one.

However, as I've said he values a lot anything that reminds him of his mother, and when she passes that's even stronger so all her stuff and specially the tapestries and bracelets she made and he still has are very important for him, he thinks that since they were made by her they have a little bit of her in them.

❄ - do people consider them cold? If so, what made them this way?

No, I don't think so, he's not cold, he's always sharing and laughing and trying to make people happy.

He doesn't cry in public, tho, and tries to act like he's relaxed and nothing bothers him, but I don't think that makes people think he's cold.

5. On an average day, what can be found in your character's pockets?

In Encanto adjacent timeline probably a knife, more handkerchiefs, pencil, notebook, treats for Lulo.

In modern keys, cellphone, earphones, a knife, wallet, treats for Lulo, an emergency leash, probably trash and fun stuff he finds on the street.

💚 - what things make your OC feel comforted?

Physical touch. Hugs, cuddles, hair touching, face touching, holding hands, kisses.

Words of comfort. Sometimes he's very insecure and oblivious to what others feel or think, so being told directly he's doing nothing wrong or he's loved is very important for him.

☁️ - a soft headcanon

Modern AU when he visits his parents Lulo isn't allowed to sleep inside, so he let's him in the farm outside... and at night let's him in through the window so they can sleep together.

🎵 - what is their Playlist like? Their favorite artists? Do you associate a particular song with them?

I am terrible at linking music with characters, BUT I do have a playlist. He's really into Indie/alternative rock kinda style. Indie sounds are kinda how I imagine he plays the guitar.

I've mentioned this before, but I wanted to make Brick + Mortar his favorite band, because I really like the sounds, but their lyrics are too sad and not a lot like him! So idk about favorite artist yet.

I really liked when Mantis mentioned "What's my age again? By Blink-182 as a Diego song so I'll say that one.

🎁 - what type of presents would they be the most happy to receive? Are they good at gift giving?

It doesn't really matter, gift giving is his love language (one of them) so any gift that comes from the heart will be really loved by him.

He's so good at gift giving!

🥞 - what is their comfort breakfast?

Scrambled eggs with milk and pepper.
