⛄️ (with tai)
for our muses to build a snowman together.
“ tai, hurry and come look ! ” selene popped her small frame from around the kitchen corner where the other sat steadily working over his assignment. it was just another thursday and she’d went to get them hot cocoa since it was, for some reason, getting pretty chilly tonight. she even broke out her favorite cardigan. but a daydreaming gaze outside the window as the water heated up gave her the answer to why. she watched the snowflakes flutter, a saddened smile that it would stop soon enough. denton rarely had a white christmas, after all. suddenly, it was drizzling, then pouring. a blizzard, almost. and she wanted to share that with tai as soon as possible. “ can we go outside later ? i wanna do . . . something. what if it all melts tomorrow ? ” sounded like a kid, honestly, with her brown hues blazing in excitement, corners lifting in a 400 watt smile. of course there wasn’t enough snow for all she had planned: snow angels, snow ball fights and her favorite, the classic, a snowman.
an hour later, after promising him that she’d focus on her obstetrics assignment, the pair were trudging out onto the link’s rooftop, bundled up against the harsh cold. a teeny squeak erupted before she began collecting piles and piles of snow, the other helping her roll it into a sphere bigger than the chairs now barely recognizable under all the snow. they teased back and forth about the importance of its size, then agreed whole heartedly that it was their baby and they would love it no matter how big or small. a couple of times, she watched as he tried perfecting the head, a fond smile when observing the snowflakes decorating his dark hair and nose and tip of ears turning as red as the scarf around his neck. it was familiar; baring how handsome he looked even under these harsh conditions. remembers last year when there wasn’t snow, but still it was freezing and she gave him that scarf . . . how his eyes lit up happily; how it made her heart run off its biological track. as if he could feel her staring, their eyes crossed briefly. does he remember that, too ? selene melted into another warm grin, waving some broken chair legs they could use for the arms and indicating to him that she’d keep looking for more scraps. nah, he doesn’t. somehow, that should’ve brought her relief, but as she turned away, her cheerful expression slowly slipped, an ache so very far from how she’d felt this time last year burrowing deep into her chest.
