Guardian AU -- closed with difficult-airway
Even though the meeting was scheduled beforehand, Jonathan Holmes had to admit that he was just a little surprised to hear the door open and see the blonde, short frame of his case worker/friend Jasper Cardamom enter the room. As usual in this situation, the social worker spent a second or two looking awkwardly around the room before finally facing his charge.
"Hi." said Jasper before wincing at the horrible awkwardness of his greeting. His friend was seriously ill, he'd had to struggle with obstinate nurses for ages to get to visit Jonathan to the point where visiting hours were almost over and all he could say was "hi"?
Jonathan, already used to the other's high-maintenance attitude concerning his own conduct, just beckoned Jasper over with a lazy grin. Visibly relieved, Jasper walked over and took a seat on the chair next to Jonathan's bed.
"So, how's it been?" said Jasper, pretending for a moment that the bald man in the hospital gown beside him wasn't in mortal peril.
"Eh, same old. You?"
"Same old." Jasper was not about to bore Jonathan with the details of office drudgery. "I got the photos, though."
"Of the new church?" Jonathan's face lit up ever so slightly.
"No, of the McDonalds." Despite everything, Jasper somehow managed to forget the situation enough to joke around with Jonathan. "Of course of the church. Just give me a moment." He began to rummage through his shoulder bag, eventually producing a couple of photos. He'd never really gotten into architecture himself, despite his best efforts to do so in order to have something more to talk about with his client.

Seeing how there had been no sign of this hunter or reports of his activity in some time, Jasper and Jonathan were gradually easing up. (Of course, they were still searching for the Butler.) So much so, in fact, that they felt comfortable actually storing their food in the communal fridge instead of using thermal boxes in their own room.
At the moment, Jasper was relaxedly eating a bowlful of weed soup while Jonathan was lying down and enjoying some cheese pops. Their strong scent didn't bother Jasper, however; honestly, the both of them were just happy to get on with their lives, even if only partially. The kitchen was mercifully empty at the moment, which eased the transition.
