This chapter: Natsuko is invited to a knowledge-sharing event and the Chosen go hunting for Lilithmon.  Will they be successful?

I need to get rid of this plot-bunny, but have neither the time nor talent to write it myself.  Basically, it would be a series following the parents of the Chosen Children after the events of season 1 and continuing to season 2 (and possibly beyond).

Main Cast:

Hiroaki Ishida - reporter working for Fuji TV.  Dedicated to his job and uses his contacts to find any new leads on the Digital World. Tends to get caught up in his work. Credentials get him into a lot of press events.

Natsuko Takaishi - freelance journalist. Very good at discovering minute details others might have overlooked and pursuing new leads.  Tends to remain detached from work, which makes her seem cold.

Toshiko Takenouchi - ikebana iemote.  No-nonsense and tends to organise meetings between the parents.  Very good at delegation although sometimes has control issues.

Haruhiko Takenouchi - history professor at Kyoto University.  Although his work keeps him away from Odaiba, he begins seeing a lot of similarities to the digimon and ancient mythological beings.

Masami Izumi - IT specialist.  A very practical man.  Because he doesn’t have the same expertise as some of the other parents, he takes it upon himself to collate all the evidence together and distribute it in an easy-to-read format.

Kae Izumi - housewife.  While she might seem unimportant compared the others at first glance, Mrs Izumi keeps the team running with her excellent cooking skills.  She is often the one who offers to host meetings, coordinating them with Toshiko, and proves the best at settling arguments.

Very rough summary below:

I think it would start with Hiroaki and Natsuko wanting to find out more about the Odaiba fog (possibly prompted by their employers).  Natsuko soon discovers the truth behind the Hikarigaoka incident and Hiroaki (after speaking with Yamato) realises all the parents were living there at the time.  

Hiroaki approaches the Takenouchis and Yagamis first, receiving a positive reaction from the first and negative from the second.  The Yagamis are not particularly interested in finding out more information about the monsters that nearly got their children killed.  The Tachikawas similarly want nothing to do with it and the Kidos were away during the attack, so it feels a little odd including them.  The Izumis, however, are enthusiastic and interested in learning more about the creatures that helped their son open up to them.

The meetings start quite professional and stilted - the parents don’t know each other that well and there’s a lot of information to sift through.  However, over the next couple of years they begin to become more comfortable in each others’ presence, particularly since their kids are all good friends.  By late 2001, there is no new information, but they continue monthly meetings as a social event.  At this time Natsuko and Hiroaki are close friends again, leaving the other parents wondering if they’ll get back together (they don’t, but it doesn’t stop the other four from trying to set them up for a while).

They almost forget about the digimon before everything kicks off again in 2002.  An emergency meeting is called and a discussion on what could have triggered this new event (and whether it might spill into their world again).  They aim to help the children where they can and pass the information on as soon as possible.  During this time Jou’s brothers also join the group, although mostly to share information rather than to be social.

After Vamdemon is defeated once more, the group decides to speak with the younger Chosen’s parents as well as the families of the dark seed children.  There is a mixed reaction, although mostly positive.  The Hidas and Ichijoujis are very keen to know more, as are the Motomiyas (although they have less of an idea what is happening).  Jun joins along with Miyako’s siblings and act as a bridge between them and the Chosen once they receive their own partners.  Later the Yagamis express an interest (since this Digital World thing isn’t going away and their kids are happy).

I imagine most of the series would just be fun with possibly a little drama here and there.  Maybe they solve a mystery involving a digimon while the Chosen are busy doing more important things?  As you can probably tell, I haven’t thought through the details much more than the overall plot.

Music Tastes

So my fandom new year’s resolution is to write something new each week, posting it on Wednesday.  I realise this is a bit cheap, considering I’ve already posted this drabble on ff.net but I’d wanted to get it up earlier because I was already several months late getting back to the requester.  As usual, I’m open to any prompts as long as it’s friendship with the Adventure universe (although I may take a while to write them).

Summary: Koushiro and Yamato listen to music together. Pre-02

Koushiro sometimes wondered how he ended up with the friends he had. For the most part, it was not a difficult answer. The Digital World was an experience that not many humans have shared and the knowledge of it draws them together. Of course, to anyone unaware of the Digital World and the Chosen Children, the sight of him listening to music under a tree with a middle school student when he was still in elementary probably looked a little strange, particularly when that middle school student was Yamato Ishida.

Koushiro never thought he'd like Yamato's taste in music, but was pleasantly surprised the day he was handed a CD-mix that Yamato had put together. Koushiro found himself asking Yamato for further recommendations and soon they began spending a few minutes each lunchtime listening to new songs together. This year, going to different schools meant that often Koushiro would wander into the park after school to find Yamato waiting with his CD player. For Koushiro it was a good (his mother would insist essential) screen break. For Yamato, it was time he could properly rest rather than feeling obligated to keep up a conversation. Both of them enjoyed socialising, but sometimes it was nice not feeling obligated to keep up conversation.

It had taken longer than Koushiro would like to admit for him to realise that it wasn't so much that Yamato's music tastes were the same as his, but that Yamato liked nearly every type of music there was. One week he would accompany Sora and Mimi to the latest popular boyband's concert and the next week he would wander into a small café to listen to traditional music with Jou. In fact, Yamato had made a CD for each of the Chosen Children with songs that catered to their tastes. Socialising seemed to come easy to Yamato when music was involved. Koushiro supposed it was the same with him and computers, being able to talk about something he was familiar with if all other conversations failed.

A few months had passed before Koushiro finally asked Yamato if he could listen to the older Chosen's favourite songs. Yamato had pulled out his CD case and slipped out one of the CDs. It had nothing on it except the a small Crest of Friendship drawn on the top. Yamato looked a little nervous as he placed the CD into the music player.

"I listen to this when I feeling lost or need some inspiration."

Koushiro listened through the whole CD twice. There were eight tracks and not all the music was to his taste, but he recognised one of the songs from the CD Yamato had given to him. It was only when he was walking home, alone in his thoughts that he realised the significance of each track. Takeru, Jou, Taichi… each song symbolised one of the Chosen Children with the final track seemingly representing Gabumon. The next day he had presented his findings to Yamato and the two had talked through the reasoning and symbolism behind his choices for the entirety of their lunch break. Taichi had grabbed them at the end of lunch to tell them the bell had already rung because neither had heard it.

"Koushiro."

Koushiro was startled back into the present by Yamato's soft voice. He had taken out his earphone and his finger was hovering over the pause button. Koushiro nodded, giving him permission to stop the music and then waited patiently for Yamato to gather his thoughts.

"How much do you know about mixing music?"

"I have a little experience, but only with small projects."

Koushiro had helped out friends in the computer club with various projects so he knew some things. He watched Yamato nod silently, taking in the information before formulating his next words.

"I was discussing with some guys about starting up a band, but we'd need someone to help with sound mixing. I know how I want it to sound, but I don't always know what I'm doing."

"Of course I'll help."

Yamato seemed taken aback by Koushiro's quick response, but Koushiro was interested in helping. He could always ask his Internet friends for hints and tips.

"Are you sure?" Yamato asked, still sounding sceptical.

"Yes," Koushiro said with a nod, just in case Yamato had any doubt. "I don't know too much about sound mixing, but I'd be happy to help."

Yamato laughed, seemingly satisfied. "All right, then we can learn together. I don't want to have to completely rely on other people all the time."

"Have you decided what type of music you'll be making?"

Yamato shrugged, which basically meant "whatever the others decide." He didn't care as long as he had a chance to do what he enjoyed.

"Are you free tomorrow after school?" Yamato asked. "The other guys wanted us to meet up so we can listen to each other's music and discuss songs we can do."

"I should be, but I'll confirm before the end of the day."

The sun was beginning to set. Koushiro realised with a start that he probably should have been home a long time ago. Yamato slowly packed away his CD player and stood up.

"Thanks for your help."

"See you tomorrow," Koushiro called before Yamato was out of earshot.

Yamato smiled back, waving in acknowledgement.

Curious Friends

Summary: Miyako was shocked when a guy she had never heard of before somehow became the computer club’s president.  However, the sudden arrival of a middle school student makes her rethink her first impressions.

Characters: Miyako and Koushiro (Yamato cameo)

This was written based on a request for a bit of Koushiro-Yamato friendship on ff.net.  However, Miyako ended up dominating this story a bit.

Koushiro Izumi wasn’t someone who stood out.  In fact, in the time that Miyako had been a member of the computer club, she couldn’t remember ever meeting him, at least, not until he became the president of the club in his final year of elementary school. 

Miyako was in the year below him and observed her senior closely for anything that would give her a hint to his character.  He seemed nice enough, willing to hear suggestions from the younger years and making sure to attend every meeting and social event, even when he looked like he had more important places to be.  However, he could be a little abrupt and tended to keep to himself, which made Miyako wonder why he had been made president in the first place.  Wouldn’t a more outgoing person such as Watari have been a much better choice?

It was another seemingly normal day when Miyako watched Koushiro and some of the other club members discussing the latest project they were working on.  As usual, while Koushiro talked a little, he mostly let the others take the lead, providing input only when he apparently deemed it necessary.  To Miyako he seemed detached from the conversation.

Suddenly, the door slid open and a middle schooler, with blond hair reaching down the back of his neck, stepped into the room.  Miyako blushed at the obviously cute guy and a couple of the boys tensed.  Everyone had been startled by the newcomer’s appearance, except for Koushiro, who seemed to be waiting patiently for something.

“Sorry for barging in like this,” the older boy began apologetically eyes focused on Koushiro, “but the Gate’s open.”

Miyako frowned and looked to the others, hoping that they had understood what he was saying better than she had.

“Has something happened?”

Everyone’s attention turned to Koushiro, who stood from his chair with a serious expression on his face, looking more authoritative than Miyako had ever seen before.  The blond boy looked sheepish and possibly even nervous under Koushiro’s gaze.  Miyako glanced between the two carefully, curious as to what their relationship was.

“Taichi went through.”

The newcomer cringed as soon as the words left his mouth as if waiting for Koushiro to reprimand him.  But that didn’t make…

“On a school night?”  Koushiro exclaimed and everyone except the middle schooler jumped back.  “Why didn’t you stop him?”

The middle schooler sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.

“Believe me, Sora and I tried to talk him out of it when he pulled us out of our extracurricular activities, but you know how he gets.”

“What if something happens to him?  What if the gate closes?  He’s our leader.  He’s supposed to think these things through!”

Koushiro was already shoving his books into his bag.  No one said anything.  It wasn’t like anyone in the computer club was going to stop him from leaving early.

“Sora’s been keeping an eye on things, but we figured you’d be able to persuade him better than we could.  I think he started tuning us both out towards the end of last year.”

Koushiro was nearly out the door when the blond boy caught his eye and looked towards the rest of the computer club’s members.  Koushiro seemed to understand the silent communication because he stopped in his tracks and turned to face the group.

“I’m afraid I have some important business to attend to.  I will be back in tomorrow.  Call me if there is an emergency.”

From his tone of voice, Miyako assumed the emergency would have to be very significant to get him to return.

The middle schooler looked towards them, seemingly apologetic.  “Sorry for interrupting.”

The two were out the door before anyone could think of a word to say.

The following day was grey and drizzly.  Miyako was glad she was with the computer club as she opened the door to their designated classroom.  Sports were cool and all, but she preferred being able to take her time over something to get it right.

“Good afternoon!” she greeted the classroom brightly in order to counter the gloom outside.

When no one responded she looked around the dark classroom.  Did she have the wrong location?  Had the club been cancelled for some reason?  She was about to step out, embarrassed, when she noticed some movement on the other side of the room.

“Hello, Miyako.”

Miyako flicked on the light to see Koushiro sitting at one of the computers with his laptop next to it.  No one else was here yet.

“Am I that early?”

Koushiro finally took his eyes off the screen and smiled at her warmly.  “I think a few of the others will be here later.  Was there something you wanted to work on?”

“I’ve been building a computer for a friend, but I’m not sure what else I need.”

Koushiro smiled and scooted over so that she could bring up a chair next to him and she brought out the notes she had made so far.  Miyako slyly glanced at Koushiro before looking back at her notebook.

“Was everything all right in the end, yesterday?”

Koushiro seemed confused at first, but recovered quickly.  “Yes, my friend was fine in the end, despite his best efforts.”

She giggled at how annoyed he sounded.  “How did you know that guy?”

“You mean Yamato?” he asked, clearly referring to the blond boy.  “We met at summer camp back in elementary school.”

“And you’ve kept in touch after all these years?  That’s really amazing!”

Koushiro blushed.  “I guess it is.”

Just then the door opened to reveal a couple of the other computer club members.  Whatever moment Miyako and Koushiro was sharing seemed to be broken immediately.  For the rest of the day, Miyako watched as Koushiro took a step back and let others seemingly dominate the conversation.  However, to anyone that was paying attention, they would soon realise that Koushiro was actually the one in charge, carefully directing thought processes and catching disagreements early.  Miyako smiled at the observation.  She was actually glad Koushiro was their president.

Mimi and Yamato arguing about anything (maybe about the possibility of her wanting to treat his as her gay bff, really, anything). If possible, have Sora get caught up in the middle of it, and them trying to make her choose.

Sorry this has taken a bit longer to respond to than I expected.  I wanted them to argue over music until I remembered how poor my music knowledge is.  So there is a bit of bickering rather than arguing, but Sora makes an appearance so that’s something?

Prompt: Koushiro tries to tell Taichi he's asexual without actually saying it in those words, hinting around and very heavily implying it, and begins to get frustrated when Taichi isn't understanding...

Not quite what you asked for, Anon, since I find it difficult to imagine a scenario where Koushiro would willingly tell Taichi his sexuality.  Hopefully, close enough though?  Brief cameos from Yamato and Sora.

“What about Aimi in second class?”

Koushiro sighed, realising Taichi wasn’t going to let him get back to working on a solution to their current Digital World problem without some sort of answer.  He glanced from his laptop towards Taichi, who was sitting on the grass and watching students pass them by.  Unfortunately, he must have kept silent for too long because Taichi spoke again.

“What about Isamu?  He’s pretty attractive.”

Koushiro froze and looked at his laptop screen.  This was not the sort of conversation he wanted to have when so many students could easily listen in.

“I’m not interested in either of them.  I don’t even know them very well.”

Taichi frowned, but was silent.  It was a long time before he spoke again.

“What about one of your friends you know over the Internet?”

Koushiro spluttered and Taichi looked at him curiously.

“No,” Koushiro said, gasping for air.

“Not one of them?”

“Why do you want to know?”

Taichi shrugged.  “I guess I’m just curious.  You don’t seem to be interested in anyone at school.”

Koushiro resisted the urge to start typing on his laptop to escape.  Taichi was not going to let him drop the conversation that easily.

“I don’t know,” Koushiro mumbled.

Koushiro looked up again and was startled backwards at Taichi’s intense look.  

“You don’t know?”

“I don’t have all the facts.”

“You don’t have all the facts,” Taichi repeated back, disbelieving.

“Would you stop repeating me?”  Koushiro almost shouted in exasperation.

“You don’t need all the facts to be interested in someone,” Taichi stated, lying back on the grass with his hands behind his head.  “Half the fun of falling in love is discovering each other’s tastes together.”

“I suppose,” Koushiro conceded, staring at the grass between him and Taichi.  “But I can’t just look at someone and decide I’m attracted to them.”

“Oh, OK.”  Taichi sat up.  “So you don’t care about looks.”

“Probably why he can stand being around you all the time.”

“I guess that’s why he’s not fooled by your pretty boy act,” Taichi shot back to the newcomer.

Yamato laughed good-naturedly as he walked closer towards them with Sora following close behind.  Sora shared a look with Koushiro and rolled her eyes.

“Takeru sent me a message.  There’s been an incident in the Digital World.”

Taichi’s demeanour changed completely.  He sat up straight and his expression became serious.

“I’ve got soccer practice, but I can meet you guys afterwards.”

The other three nodded and they sat around Koushiro’s laptop to discuss a plan for their trip to the Digital World.

OK I’ve seen way too much talk about shipping this weekend, so let’s concentrate a bit more on the friendships in Digimon Adventure.  Send me a prompt with two or more characters from the Digimon Adventure series (to make things a bit easier for me, I’d prefer at least one of them to be from the original cast) and I’ll write a short (or maybe not so short) scene between them.

Digimon Fanfic: Negotiations

Getting back into the Digimon fandom, it was only a matter of time before I tried my hand at fanfic.  I’ve created an account on ff.net for longer stories (since I think the layout is better for reading 2000+ word pieces), but I’ll probably still post my drabbles here.  I’d love it if you’d read and review.

Summary: After the events of Our War Game, Sora decides to avoid the other Chosen Children until school restarts. However, when she runs into Yamato and Takeru while shopping, she discovers that she's not the only one still trying to adjust after their adventures in the Digital World.
