[Epilogue] Digital Art Festival in Seoul Metropolitan Library

The center of Seoul with its history...
-city hall square
This is the city hall square,the center of Seoul, center of the citizens where various culture events are held. This place was covered in red with people cheering for the World Cup in 2002. Psy's Gangnam Style which 4 billion people have viewed all over the world was broadcast live at this city hall in 2012.
The old city hall was built in 1926 during the Japanese colonial era and has become the painful symbol of Korean history. It was built as a government office building for KyungSung(name of Seoul during that time), but continued to be used after the liberation under the new name, Seoul. At the center of Seoul for 90 years, after witnessing the tumultuous modern history of the Republic of Korea, it was designated as a cultural property in 2003.

It has been reborn as a seoul library, housing about 250 thousand books and one can see the old history at different parts of the building.
Now, shall we view the exhibition?
-Entrance of city hall library
The name name Digifun Art Festival came from the combining of 'digital' and 'fun' plus 'art' which represents enjoying art through digital equipment. This exhibition was designed with this concept of 'digifun' as a background.
1st Floor. Discovering Digifun Art
This is DigiFun Art is Colorful which selected PEN.UP artist's various works were expressed with 7 different colors. It symbolizes the phiolosophy of DigiFun Art embracing diversity and the open mindedness to include everyone's participation. various drawings in harmony as one piece of work caught the eyes of the audience.
You can enjoy the works of both domestic artists and visiting mobile artists from abroad along the wall with the line that symbolizes the seoul subway route.
The works of PEN.UP's BacGyver, viva.J, crush, syong are placed in the visiting artist's corner.
Behind the wall in a small dark room, one can appreciate brilliant colored pieces created with the infamous OLED tablet by Samsung which is known for its self-illuminant display. we put a lot of thought into enjoying mobile art as it is without being printed.
The falling snow video of koreaypg overpowered the darkroom atmosphere.
2nd Floor. encountering imagination
The exhibition was also being held in the general library on the second floor. Its the entrance of where over 5 m of bookshelves are lined up. Its composed of works from mDAC which was supervised by the U.S Mobile Art Academy.
Just as one would experiment with new work by looking at and being inspired by drawings of other people through PEN.UP, 6 artists including some PEN.UP artists gathered at an impulse at the site and drew pictures on the board.
3,4th Floor. DigiFun Art in daily life
On the 3rd floor of seoul library where all data regarding seoul, korea is stored, an exhibition themed 'indepence fighters who protected seoul' is being progressed.
In the center, the Kim Gu drawing video is being played. How lovely was the PEN.UP logo was to my eyes...
On the 4th floor, the works of Autodesk Korea contest exhibit which was a collaboration of PEN.UP and university students, were located in one corner. The pieces done by elementary, middle and high school student's art volunteer organization Art & Love who dream of studying at an art university, were exhibited at the other corner.
We were able to meet diverse and imaginative works in two wonderfully harmonious places.
What would this be? it was said to be a library card list drawers which our ancestors used long time ago, but many young university students have mistaken them for a medicine drawer at a chinese medicine hospital. The drawers were filled with PEN.UP works.
5th Floor. Sky lounge
Place to rest with DigiFun Art. A happy place of bakery and cafe where there is the aroma of coffee and music. the site of the city hall square come in the view from this outside lounge.

6th Floor. DigiFun Art Choice
This door that has never been exposed to public since the liberation has finally opened especially for this festival. These secrets have made this hall a more meaningful place. one cannot leave out the beautiful ceiling where the density of the exhibition was concentrated at this pyramid type space.
7 PEN.UP artists kimdajeong, mongpic, AL1ISBETTER, aznlover220, dalistylin, nilla, uzu were chosen for DigiFun Art Choice.
