Was watching a video essay on LEZ talking about how it had a bad ending, and was reading the comments on it that agreed and disagreed with it, but I realized something.

I don't think Last Evolution had a bad message, it just didn't do the best job at conveying the message it wanted to share.

Bare with me as I haven't watch the movie in a minute, but Menoa says that as the Chosen Children grow up they will lose their potential and therefore lose their partners, which people have pointed out how just because you grow up doesn't mean you will lose your potential and the fact that they keep their Digimon well into their adulthood so that's wrong, but that's not the message in the movie.

The message isn't about leaving your childhood behind and pretending it never happened, but accepting it and remembering it won't come back. Letting it guide you into the future and allowing it to help you achieve your dreams. You can't just push back your childhood and pretend it never happened, you need to let it exist and let it drive you. Taichi and Yamato don't do that, they let their past hold them back and neglect their partners because they don't know their dreams(which people have pointed out before).

That is a good message, but to some, it defiantly comes off as, "you need to grow up and forget your childhood so you can become an adult". We know they get their partners back, and we know it's not just growing up that makes them lose their partners as all of the other Chosen still have them, it's letting your childhood hold you back and realizing the potential you will always have with you. It's just that I don't think LEZ does the best job at conveying that, so to some, the message just doesn't hit.

Now, I'm not here saying LEZ is a perfect movie. While the end of the movie does imply Agumon and Gabumon(as well as piyomon) will come back, it's not direct so it does still feel like it's ignoring the canon 02 epilogue a little bit(people also didnt realize that the epilogue is canon). Besides Taichi, Yamato, and the 02 kids, the other characters are mostly ignored(especially sora), and there is no denying the nostalgia bait that comes with Last Evolution, but I feel like it defiantly could have done better at conveying what it's real message was as not to confuse fans.

Media literacy has gone down and that could very well be a factor, but still, it's clear the writers had a message they wanted to share yet I don't feel they did the best way of conveying that. Some might say it was obvious, or that just because it requires some digging to realize doesn't mean it's bad, and that is true, but that doesn't chance the fact the message just doesn't seem to hit the way it feels the writers wanted it too. I mean, the whole losing their partners thing isn't even further explored in the plot after Menoa's speech.

Again, it's been a minute since I watched Last Evolution but I have seen the sub and read several analysis posts on it and this is just what I feel about the movie, coming from someone who doesn't really like it but can understand and connect with the message it was trying to send. I'd be happy to hear your opinion, baring in mind you are respectful

I don't know if this is just a me thing, but the way Yamato speaks during this scene makes it sound like he doesn't know Takeru is writing a novel about their adventures.

Depending on what you want to believe, Takeru either starts writing his novels of their adventures either after 02 ended or some time around Tri, but both are before LEZ takes place. Takeru even says that he's spoken to the others about their adventures to make sure he gets everything right(this was said in his 02 spring story).

However, this makes it seem like Takeru either doesn't do that(it is an audio drama where he says he talks to the others in 02 so canonicity can be questioned) or he just hasn't asked Yamato about it. Taichi even seems shocked to hear Takeru is writing a novel, so has Takeru not spoken to any of the older kids about his novel or whats it about. Or in this movie, are they retconing the audio drama and stage play as both having questional canonicity and saying Takeru starts writing his novel in college? All of these options are weird to me.

Nothing says Takeru has to write everything in chronological order, so maybe he just hasn't gotten to his original adventure, but I also don't think he'd skip it for this long. There's also nothing that said this couldn't be a different novel. As even though nothing canon supports this, many people myself included think he also writes novels about other topics and in other genres.

Again, I could just be interpreting what Yamato says wrong, but this is just what I thought about when I first saw this scene. There could also be another piece of media that explains or expands on this that I just do not know about. Also, Yamato sounds annoyed and upset when he says Takeru hasn't let him read his novel yet, and I love that

Yamato wearing glasses in Last Evolution has some interesting implacations.

I don't think we see Yamato's parents wear glasses, but compared to the Chosen Children, we don't see them that much and I don't think it's hard to say that they do need glasses.

Considering Yamato is only shown wearing them in this one scene and he's in a lecture hall, I think he's near-sighted, so he has problems seeing things far away. I could be wrong, but I am also near-sighted so this is my headcanon. I wonder if it would affect him becoming an astronaut, or maybe his vision is good enough it doesn't matter. His glasses also look to be red rimmed, which is not the first color I'd though they would be.

There is also Takeru, who I have headcanoned for a while needs glasses as he gets older, but I think he's far-sighted. So Takeru has trouble seeing things close up. This means Takeru would need glasses when he's writing on his laptop or reading a book, and I've always liked that headcanon. I also just really like the mental image of Takeru in some green rimmed glasses, hair in a small ponytail as he grows it out, and dressed in either pajamas or a sweater vest like a grandpa as he writes on a computer.

Now there was a Tri collab with Megane Ichiba that gave each of the OG8 Chosen Children glasses, and the glasses made for Yamato and Takeru were square-type frames in blue and yellow for each one respectively, but these glasses in LEZ to me look like either rectangle-type frames or browline-type frames. I honestly don't care about what type of frames Yamato and Takeru have, that's just what I think those glasses are in LEZ.

This is only one scene in LEZ, but I've always liked the implications it has towards Yamato and Takeru. I think they would look good in glasses, and these are fun headcanons, so I consider it canon

I just noticed this with a rewatch of LEZ and 02TB but Takeru's Digivice Phone changes color.

In LEZ, it's depicted as a light yellow that matches the color of his crest. In 02TB, it's depicted as a medium shade green that matches the color of his D-3. Even though you don't see it, Wikimon states that the phone still has the Crest of Hope on it and I think the same. In 02TB it also doesn't have the top corners cut out like you can see in LEZ so I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same on the bottom. There also doesn't look to be the two additional triangles below the main one with the crest and it looks to be white instead of the pain color of the case.

You only see Takeru's Digivice Phone in the very beginning of 02TB and it's a small detail but I like how they changed it.

I understand why they made it yellow, since the rest of the OG8's Digivice Phone's were all colored after their crests, but Takeru does have a D-3 and the phones are meant to act like Digivices while also being phones so I thought it made more sense for his to be the color of his D-3. Ken's Digivice Phone is also shown to be black like his D-3 with the rest of the 02 kids, and Hikari's wouldn't have changed but I still like the change. It would definitely allow his Crest of Hope to pop more.

Again, it's a small detail change and I don't really care what color it is, but I definitely prefer the green to the yellow. There is also a chance that it is just a phone case so Takeru could change them out depending on how he feels and I like that as well

Seems like Takeru really likes going to the local Starbucks to write. Which is just so him in the way he is totally a coffee girly. Why he goes dressed like either a grandpa or a twink is beyond me, but whatever makes him happy and it is also just so him.

Also, Patamon is addicted to sugary coffee, that is so canon

For some reason, I love Takeru and Hikari's running in this scene. It just looks so stupid to me that it always makes me laugh. Takeru and Hikari have a habit of running weird, but I love it, so I don't care
