The Chosen as Major Arcana Tarot Cards: The Magician

I The Magician: Izumi Koushiro

The Magician card traditionally features the four “suits” of the Minor Arcana: pentacles, cups, wands, and swords.  These four tokens representing the universe and its powers sit on your altar, offered for your use.  What will you do with them?  How will you direct your energies to change the world?

The Magician is a card of active, intentional creation, affirming the Seeker’s ability to impact reality.  All of the knowledge, experience, and skills that you have built are at your command, have led you to this level where you can shape the ample resources this world has to offer.  Which is all incredibly exciting- but it’s imperative that the Seeker examine what they are creating and why they are creating it.  Be sure to use your energies in a way that has meaning to you, that aligns with your goals and beliefs.  Think of your ideal self (the person you want to become) as you create, or of how you want to help the world.

Although you might not think so, you are an alchemist, more than capable of shaping this world and manifesting your dreams.  Just remember to use your gifts to connect with the world, not to hide away from it.

IV The Emperor: Yagami Taichi

The Emperor is the father and leader of the tarot. The Emperor's natural charisma, leadership ability, and desire to protect and defend draws loyal, trusting followers. You are a rock; without you, the group will struggle, and might fracture.

While leading comes naturally to the Emperor, it is a skill that must be cultivated and honed. The Emperor guides you to approach problems rationally, by breaking them into parts, planning ahead, and strategizing. And remember, the people looking to you are also pivotal team members. Consult with them and delegate. They want you to succeed as much as you do!

The Emperor does not fear hard work and conflict, and accepts responsibility as a leader. When The Emperor calls upon you, remember that you have the expertise and personal strength to handle anything. But commanding so much ability, respect, and responsibility is a huge burden- one that you would never think to offload onto anyone else. Still, always know that you are not alone, that others are eager to support you, as you've supported them. Seek your people, and trust in them.

The Emperor has overcome many challenges, and has developed experience and insight. If the opportunity arises, act as a mentor to someone drawn to you. Pass on your experience, so that others can share in your power.

VII The Chariot: Ishida Yamato

After consulting with the group as The Hierophant and developing personal values as The Lovers, the Seeker is ready to stand for and defend their beliefs. Enter The Chariot, a warrior exemplifying willpower, determination, and strength. The Chariot bears witness to our ability to manifest our dreams and goals through action and commitment.

You have the resources you need, but overcoming obstacles won't be easy. The Chariot demands proactive effort and concentration. Do not be swayed from your course, from what you know to be right and true. Hold fast to your conviction, and to your commitment to personal excellence. Give your all, stay true to your values, and you will prevail.

The Chariot is an independent, autonomous card. It calls the Seeker to believe in their truths, but do not be blinded to the input of others or focus so completely on your goal that you see nothing else. Tunnel vision is a danger for any warrior in the charge.

If you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything. Know yourself, trust your strength, and rise.

0 The Fool: Motomiya Daisuke

Let’s get this out of the way: I am not calling Daisuke stupid xD

Even among the Major Arcana, The Fool is a special card.  Some tarot practitioners consider The Fool to represent the Seeker (the person consulting the tarot- ie, you, if you pick up a deck!), moving through the spiritual journey presented in a tarot deck.  The Fool is everywhere, in everyone, connecting us to each other, and to the universe.  It represents the Seeker’s openness to experience the remaining cards and connect to them.  How perfect for Daisuke, who finds his strength by admiring and trusting in the strength of his friends.

The Fool calls the Seeker to embrace the unknown and set off on a journey, usually one of personal/spiritual growth and discovery.  There is an element of inexperienced confidence or audacity to The Fool, a young person ignoring or underestimating the difficulties of the long, arduous journey ahead.  But this blind trust is precisely what allows The Fool to embark on their journey, where many might shy away.

The Fool invites you to start your journey and take risks, even if you aren’t 100% prepared, even if you don’t know what lies ahead.  It’s impossible to know what’s coming, anyway, so you might as well get going, put yourself out there, and chase your dreams!  Be open to the lessons that others have to share as you leap into the unknown.

The Chosen as Major Arcana Tarot Cards: Death

XIII Death: Ichijouji Ken

The Death card is not a herald of death.  Instead, it suggests a massive change- a shift in being so great that it is comparable to transitioning from alive to dead.  

After pausing and reflecting as The Hanged Man, the Seeker is ready let go of a major aspect of their life that is no longer serving them.  Saying goodbye to a part of your past can be difficult and painful, but you cannot move on to better things without doing so.  Right now, you must look forward, not backward.  

The future is promising, but reaching it will be difficult.  The changes brought on by Death can be tumultuous and ravaging, like a forest fire.  But slowly, after the flames die, new life will rise in the vacated space.  Let the flames cleanse away the old attitudes, thoughts, and behaviors that hold you back, and you will transform.

It’s important to trust yourself right now.  Trust that the bright future that seems beyond your reach will come.  Trust that the pain of changing is worth the reward.  Trust that you will survive the flames, and that something new and wonderful will grow in their wake.  Everything you need is within you, and always has been.

The Chosen as Major Arcana Tarot Cards: Judgement

XX Judgement: Older Chosen

Judgement is about self-actualization, becoming who you are meant to be, your best Self.  The Seeker may feel a tug to act, to reach, to get out there and test their mettle.  Do not be afraid; you are ready to fly.

Choosing who you will become is no small task.  The Seeker may be at a crossroads, the threshold of a decision that will shape their life.  Making this choice will require everything the Seeker has: their intellect, their intuition, their mind, their heart.  

Now is the time to review all the experiences of your past and hopes for the future.  Have you taken those lessons with you?  Are you working towards your goals?  It’s important to release anything holding you back at this time, especially guilt, regret, and resentment.  As you make these big decisions, picture your best Self, the person you long to be.  Ask yourself what that person would do, and let that guide you.  Become that person little by little, day by day.

Judgment urges you to remember that every human has their own story.  Talk to your loved ones, especially those who have experienced things you have gone through.  Support one another as you move towards your bright future.

It’s time to break free of your cocoon, become a butterfly, and ride on the glittering wind.

The Chosen as Major Arcana Tarot Cards: The Moon

XVIII The Moon: The Dark Ocean

The Moon represents repressed weakness, fear, and illusions, all pushed down into the unconscious mind and left to fester there.  When painful memories are not processed, they can influence the Seeker at any moment; pain from the past becomes pain in the present and future.  Those fears may control you on both the subconscious and conscious level.  Nothing can be as it seems during these times.

The Seeker may be resisting the resurfacing of repressed memories out of fear or self-defense.  But pushing down trauma does not heal or resolve it, and ultimately, it will fail to protect the Seeker and foster their growth.  If you find that you are experiencing symptoms of mental heath problems, please seek help.

The Moon can also suggest that the Seeker does not have all of the information they need to make a decision or move forward.  There are secrets, lies, or simply a lack of required intel.  Trust your intuition to guide you through the gaps.
