Happy Digital Learning Day!
Digital Learning Day celebrates successful digital learning instructional practices and the effective use of technology in K-12 classrooms across the country.
According to a 2014 report from the Alliance for Excellent Education and the Stanford Center for Opportunity Policy in Education, technology can go a long way toward improving student achievement and engagement, particularly among those at highest risk. Crucial to this success, though, is an interactive learning environment; using technology to create, explore, and supplement classroom materials and discussion, rather than for rote learning; and a high level of teacher interaction and involvement. Access to computers by all students also remains a significant problem to be overcome in the most at-risk areas, with teachers in high-poverty schools reporting that only a mere three percent of their students have access to the digital tools necessary to complete homework assignments.
Digital learning is any form of instruction that effectively uses technology to strengthen the student learner-centered experience. Experts believe that digital learning resources, when used to their peak capacity, allow for rigorous expectations of knowledge acquisition and academic achievement for students. Delivered through means tailored toward students' individual learning styles, technologically enhanced education is more relevant and collaborative and moves beyond the boundaries of the classroom and school environment.
