Always love popping into libraries and perusing the 510s specifically and the 500s generally. Picked up this book a bit ago (510.992) and am very grateful that I did so. Back in college I studied Computer Engineering (not Science) with a specific interest in Embedded Systems. One of my favorite classes was Introduction to Digital Design [CSE369] and this book felt like a much needed refresher on a lot of that material. That said, I’ve no idea how someone who hadn’t taken such a class/had such a specific interest would feel about it...
There’s great joy in knowing things I feel, even if one can’t keep all the finicky details in their head. This book/that class unlocks what I feel is a very vital step transitioning from “the world” into the beginnings of a computer. Digital logic. The very foundation of so much of things today. You could go lower (electrical engineering) or higher (CPU design) but there’s something pleasing and simple in just touching on the basic bridge concepts. Had forgotten some things (how a latch works!) and now hope to embroider a couple more circuits from the book with plans to assemble into a throw pillow. That way such information will be easier to have on hand and the act of embroidery one of the best for drilling facts into one’s head- like taking uber notes.
