Drawing tablet advice?
TL;DR: 12-year(ish)-old Intuos pen is broken (though not entirely unusable), replacement is too expensive so I’m considering buying a new tablet from scratch form another brand. Options are: Keep the Intuos / get a Huion / get a Monoprice (Please read below for more context and details.)
---
The issue: The grip pen of my Intuos 3 is broken. I can’t use the nib end at all. I’ve tried everything: connected to a different computer, reinstalled the driver, etc. Customer service declared it broken and showed me a compatible model (since pens for Intuos 3 aren’t manufactured anymore), but it was like $90~100.
Now, the eraser end works. It works pretty well, with pen pressure and everything, but it’s very uncomfortable. The capped end is rather floppy and it’s sometimes hard to get the pointer/brush where you want it to be. So I’m considering the following options.
Option 1: Keep the Intuos 3 and get used to drawing with the eraser end. It would save a lot of money, although with minor inconveniences. I’m also not sure how long it would last, since the Intuos 3 itself is at least 12 years old.
Option 2: Get a replacement tablet from Huion. Usually costs around $50~90 ish. Reviews are generally good, although I’ve seen complaints about various software/hardware malfunctions here and there. Apparently it offers excellent A/S services in my country.
Option 3: Get a replacement tablet from Monoprice. A tablet bigger than my Intuos only costs around $50. Not a well-known brand, but I’ve seen strong recommendations from those who have used it. However, it has no branches in my country so I need to order it overseas (therefore adding shipping costs to the price) and wouldn’t be able to take it to A/S if it broke.
Alex Barron, where are you now?
