Today is not a normal day. Today our president denied the right to serve in the military to our Transgender friends. What about the thousands already serving? Maybe you think- this doesn't effect me. Denying the right to serve in our military is egregious. Anyone who wants to serve and protect our right to live our privileged American lives should she shown respect and dignity, not the door. This is a slippery slope- consider this poem about the Nazi's rise to power: "First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. At the training I attended last week, we had to write a negative word that’s been used to describe ourselves and a positive way to reframe it. I overheard a nurse call me “an entitled Borderline” at the hospital. I AM entitled to dignity and respect. Yes! Being entitled also means that I am assertive, know my rights, and know how to get my needs met. Very positive things indeed. We can reclaim words and take back our power. I am an entitled person and proud of it!
